toy kitchen

I am getting DS a toy kitchen for xmas. There are two I like, one is plastic (little tikes) and one is wood (kidkraft) The wood one is only $20 more and slightly bigger. Which am i better off going with? I saw the little tikes in the store and it seemed a little flimsy, but I can only order the wood one online and can't see in person to compare. Any thoughts or experience? I would like it to last a few years since I am expecting DC2 and hope they can use it as well. thanks!

I have a Step 2 plastic kitchen. My dd LOVES IT my only complaint but is not a true one is that the kitchen I got has cabinets on top and she cant reach them yet and sometimes she stretches and whines cause she wants to play with it.
BUT its not really a complaint because thats why I bought it. So she can grow into it. And theres TONS of stuff she can reach which she plays with (ie oven,fridge, stove, sink, storage baskets, light)
I personally really love the plastic. Its sturdy. Its easy to wash.

I never had a wood one so I cannot comment. She played with a wood one once and it was cute but the Step 2 one I got is a lil more realistic in a sense. It def has more for her to play with.

Shes 16.5 months I got it when she turned 1.

I can't speak for the step 2 but we have the blue retro kid craft. (Pita to put together). But it's pretty sturdy.

I have a little tikes plastic one that was a hand me down. DD likes I find it small. The fridge part is tiny and everything DD tries to put on the stove or tiny counter ends up falling down. I think we'll eventually upgrade to a kidkraft, probably for her 2nd birthday. I think she'll like a more simplistic, spacious set up and I know I'll like the added storage space.

Go on Craigslist...there are TONS of toy kitchens for sale in great shape, I wish I would have done that and saved some major $$$
