What baby food do you use and why?

I have been using Earth's Best and sometimes Happy Baby (pouch) and Plum Organic (Pouch).

There was the recent recall of Plum Organic and then I heard about a woman finding bugs in her Earth's best Pouches. There was a facebook post on it with an accompanying video. Yuck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Baby Food Recommendations

I used to use the jarred Earth's Best because it was cheaper Chat Icon and pretty much whatever organic pouches were on sale. I don't think there is such thing as a perfect company, there are always factors that may lead to improper storage etc but I always mixed the baby food with some kind of cereal or yogurt. They always went in a bowl first and I could see the food before DD ate it.

I used jarrred Earth's Best, Gerber All Natural or make some of my own. I make and serve. I do not store my DS food. Too much of a process for me. HTH

Re: Baby Food Recommendations

I usually make my own but when I buy I like sprout. All the others have extra ingredients. This is just organic veg/fruit and water

I used EB and gerber jars when DD was younger. Now we do the pouches in all different brands but I'm holding off on giving them at the moment. I'm curious about what happens with EB's investigation bc I'm a little skeptical about the video. DD is old enough that she doesn't need any baby food so I may just cut them out. If she was still an infant I would probably stick to jars since it's hard to tell what's going on in those pouches. I made a lot of my own but sometimes premade was just easier for one reason or another.

Re: Baby Food Recommendations

I have used all organic (minus Gerber), EB jars and pouches, Happy Baby, Plum, Sprout.

I had some Plum pouches that were recalled. I had bought a ton because they were on sale at BRU. I called the Plum hotline listed on their website and I went through every one. Out of 30, only 4 were recalled with the specific dates and codes. They are sending me a voucher.

I did see the EB video on Facebook. I'm not too concerned. The majority of people eat canned soups and there has been some funky things found in there as well! Like anything else, just squeeze a little first and take a peak.

Thanks everyone. I too have always poured the food into a bowl before giving it to DD, and try it myself. I think I'll stay away from pouches anyway. I happen to have a dr app today and asked my ped about which foods he recommends and he said there is no research that says organic is better -- however, it always made me feel better to give DD food that has mostly natural ingredients and no extra ingredients.

Just saw that EB updated their fb page. They said they bought samples from the same store and checked samples of the same batch and found no issues. They also said the mom changed her mind and now refuses to turn over the pouch to them. It could have been an isolated issue with that pouch being accidentally or purposely tampered with. I have a pantry full of them so if I give them, I'll make sure to test them before I hand them over to DD.

The problem with the pouches is that they can get tiny pin holes and unless they blow up from spoilage or someone squeezes it, air can get into it and spoil the food. It's the same thing with the capri sun mold issue.

No baby food has added things that I have ever seen. The only thing that may be listed is citric or ascorbic acid which is to prevent the browning of certain ingredients such as apples or bananas.

I feed DD everything but gerber. Earths best, sprout, plum, babies r us, target etc. Both jars and pouches. Whatever os on sale and/or cheapest when I buy.

Are you open to making your own? I thought it would be super time consuming, but its really not (and much cheaper).

I was thinking making food my own would be so time consuming. I work full time (and commute to and from the city) so I feel like I'm constantly running with little time.

I had a baby food maker and returned it (bought diapers with the $ LOL).

How easy is it?
