A question for winter mommies to be....

Do you worry about there being a storm? I don't know what made me look online at the farmers almanac but it is predicting a "major storm" for feb 1-2!!! Right when I would be having my c-section!!!! Being a nervous nelly, the anxiety has set in already! How would I get there?!? I am my own worst enemy! Anyone else as neurotic as me?!?
Please tell me I am not alone!!!Chat Icon

This time around I'm not a winter mommy to be....but I know how you feel.

I was 37 weeks pregnant last year when Sandy hit.

The next week (at 38 weeks) there was that crazy snowstorm. I got rear ended on my way home from work and ended up in the ER that night. Luckily, we have an SUV so 4WD helps a lot.

At least with a scheduled c, if you can't make it that day they can postpone a day. OR in an emergency, you will get there. have someone with a SUV (if you don't have one) on call or call an ambulance.

You will know ahead of time if there is a storm coming. You would also know if you are close to labor. If so to both you can stay by they hospital if possible.

Not so much for a storm around my DD since I'm not due til March but I am concerned being 7-9 months pg during a potential storm with ice, snow, and all the other crap that comes with it.

ETA: I wouldn't be concerned with anything the Farmers Almanac says though.

I was due 2/8...we had a bad snowstorm 2/7. I was paranoid I would go into labor and not make it to the hospital but fortunately dd came 8 days late so no trouble at all.
Being that you're having a csection I wouldn't be too worried. They will have an idea if/when a storm may hit and will plan or reschedule you accordingly

Re: A question for winter mommies to be....

I was a winter mom last time and I'm now going to be one again. The snow storms absolutely terrifies me. With all of the big storms lately my nerves are fried. Not having a c-section so I am really worried that it will snow, will be snowed in and then I will go into labor. I still remember stories about ambulances having to get out of their trucks and walk down streets that were un-passable. I am one mile from the nearest main road. Super nervous.

Re: A question for winter mommies to be....

I'm due 2/9 and my two biggest fears are (1) going into labor while DH is at work in the city, and (2) getting stuck at home in a snow storm when I go into labor. We're at minimum a 20 minute drive from the hospital, so I've already told DH that if there's a storm on the horizon, I'll just go stay at the hospital all week, lol. From what people tell me though, you can always call an ambulance/volunteer ambulance to come get you in case of a storm. So that'll be my back up plan.

I had my first two in Jan and Feb.
Not worried.
I will get to the hospital if my dad/Dh have to clear the streets themselves!

A question for winter mommies to be....

I was due at the very beginning of March this year. I was constantly worried about this. Everyone would say don't worry you can always get there by ambulence which is true but if I went by ambulence I would have been brought to Huntington Hospital and I was set to give birth at Manhasset Northshore. It all worked out and you will be fine!

I was a Jan 7 (due 12/29) mommy last time around and due 12/30 this time. I'm not too worried about it. Last time, we had that big storm the day after christmas. I was so sure I would go into labor, but I didn't. Fortunately, we live nearby the hospital though so I would imagine we or an emergency vehicle could still get there quickly. The day I did deliver, it did snow but not badly. There was also snow on the ground probably once a week throughout my entire maternity leave.

Yes, the thought has crossed my mind. We usually know about crazy snowstorms far enough in advance...if anything, I'll camp out in the waiting room lol

Re: A question for winter mommies to be....

I live very close to the hospital and we have two 4wd vehicles, so I wasn't too concerned the first time and I'm not worried this time either.

I'd wait until there was something real in the forecast before I started to panic.
