Baby sitter and naps

DS woke up this morning at 5:45, had a bottle and went back to sleep until about 6:30. Woke up, fell asleep in his highchair at 8 LOL for 35 mins. The babysitter came at 10, and took him for a walk, slept from 10:30-1:30. He hasn't napped since. When I called a few mins ago she said he was getting cranky and she gave him a bath. She was preparing his last bottle and getting him ready for bed! It's 5:30!! Usually he goes to bed around 6:30/6:45. I asked her how she tried to get him to nap this afternoon, she said they went for a walk, tried the bouncy seat and put him in his crib, with no success. I told her its ok to let him cry for a while and she says she does it, but I have no way of knowing. He does have a cold, and I don't doubt he's exhausted. its just so early! Should I address this is some way with her? In daycare he takes 2-3 naps a day (avg 45 mins each) and when he's with us we're always in and out of the car so he sleeps while we're driving - its often difficult for us to get him to nap in the afternoon too though...So I get it...

He is 5 1/2 months and not a great napper. He generally sleeps 12 hours straight at night...

I never worried about naps. My DS napped when he was tired and if he "skipped" on then oh well.

I also never had set times for bed. It was whenever he would fall asleep.

I would address it with the babysitter cause we can only do so much to get a baby to sleep.

Naps are tough. DD has always been a great napper but every now and then she has a day or two where it's hard to get her down. I would be more upset about the early bedtime. However, if he's sick I would make an exception. If it's happening on a regular day I would definitely let her know that you're not okay with that and give suggestions on what she can do with him if he's crabby.

How often will the babysitter be watching him? If it's often, then you can ask further and give more hints/ ideas. We have had dh's husband babysit in a pinch for us on rare occasions, and honestly, I'm fine with her going out of routine. If it's only on occasion, I'd let it go.

Its 2 days a week. He usually goes to sleep earlier on the days she's with him because he doesn't take a afternoon nap with her. I offered to put the car seat base in her car so they can go out for a little bit, so they'll have more to do and he will nap in the car for a bit. I'm just hoping he doesn't wake up at 5am!

Have you stayed home with your babysitter to show her how to put the baby down for a nap? It might be helpful to point out signs when the baby is tired and how you actually put him down.

Also, if your son is sick now, then anything goes. I'd wait until he's feeling better and then instruct your babysitter more specifically on what to do.

Thanks for all the suggestions! He slept until 6:30am had a bottle and I had to wake him at 8 to go to daycare! I think I'm making a big deal out of nothing..

I think it's gonna be hard sine those days are different from day care days. I never worried about naps at all, and she's almost 1 and sometimes still doesn't take a nap and it doesn't affect her sleep at night. I think u will find some days they are more tired than others
