New mom and question

Hi! My name is Leah and we had our first baby on Friday 11/1. We are over the moon in love with our DD

I have a quick question. I ended up having to go to the ER on Friday night for severe swelling post csection. It turns out that my Blood pressure was also high. 150/90. Went to dr today and Blood pressure is still the same. They are now starting me on a BP med. I have never had high BP before. Kinda scared. Has this happened to anyone else?

New mom and question

My BP was a little high in the last few weeks of my pregnancy. I just had to be careful about avoiding salt, drinking a ton of water, and just lying down when I didn't feel well bc I would get headaches and problems with my vision. I had no issues in the hospital during or after delivery. About a week alter when I was seeing a LC they checked it and it was super high. My ob had me come in to check it once a week for about a month and I also monitored it at home once a day. I never did need meds and eventually it subsided. Hopefully it goes away soon. Congrats!

Your body will be going nuts for the next few weeks or more. I'm sure it's nothing and you're just adjusting again to live without a baby inside of you! Plus your body is healing, you're probably sleeping a lot less, etc. Give it some time and I'm sure everythign will go back to normal.

Re: New mom and question

Oh yes. I was readmitted after delivering DS (just a couple weeks before you) for high bp. It was 180/100 when they admitted me! I do have a pre-existing condition so they were extra careful with me BUT they started me on a ton of new meds and now, 3 weeks later, I'm off almost all of them. The extra blood volume and fluids from pregnancy and delivery can make BP high. In all honesty 150/90 isn't THAT THAT high in terms of 'danger zone'. Just try to relax, anxiety will make your bp higher, take your meds and I bet you in 2 weeks your bp is normal again! I just went through this so feel free to FM me any questions.

New mom and question

DD isn't here yet but I never had high BP until I got pregnant. I've been on meds since I was about 12 weeks or so and they've brought down my BP immensely. I went from 150/98 to 118/80 in about 10 weeks. No symptoms, no side effects, nothing.

ETA: The doctors have been very happy with the way I've reacted to the meds.

New mom and question

my bp also ran high after delivery. it was still high when i was dc'd from the hospital. i had to follow up with my primary care dr who felt i didn't need medication management. it eventually subsided after a few weeks. i was really really anxious about it though which i'm sure didn't help.

My BP went up the day I went into labor and I was put on meds. By 2w pp it had regulated and at 8w pp my dr started weaning me off the med.
