I know it seems like you would save...but i also know that between the pricey diapers, the inserts and needing bigger sizes etc. it can also get expensive.

also, did anyone do disposable with #1 and then do cloth with #2. how did you feel about the transition. I'm trying to be realistic with myself but i thik i can handle it.

I used disposables with my ds but will be using cloth for this baby. I think the savings really depend on the type and brand of cd's you choose. Also how/what extras you want as well. It seems like you save money but the amount can really vary. The number of children you plan to use them for also plays a big part in that too.

CD can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. I buy awesome dipes that work great and are super cute at about $3-6 each. They will last me a few kids and I can sell and get some money back. Aside from the savings, I feel good about myself. I love doing cloth for so many reasons. My fave fb group is cloth diaper chat. Ask your questions there.

We are going to try to use cloth diapers. Our neighbors use them and LOVE them. At the very least, it is better for the environment.

You can spend a little or a lot or somewhere in between. I believed we saved money with ds and will save a boat load with new baby as we will reuse all of the diapers from ds. Prefolds you can get for a dollar or two each and diaper covers start at $5. I have bought "seconds" for really cheap as well as bought used that the tabs were following apart. The company sent me new tabs and I sewed them on and had a very usuable cheap diaper. Also if you buy one size diapers you don't have to keep buying large sizes. I have a nice stash of one size diapers.

Re: cloth diapering - do you really save that much?

I started cloth diapering this July. I spent about 3-6 dollars per diaper. It has saved us a ton of money, they are so easy to wash. Look at Alva, Sunbaby, and Kawaii diapers. They are one size, so its a one time expense.

I really wanted to do this with DD and experimented a little but we live in an apt building and i just didn't want to be washing her diapers the shared machines and also because of having to pay like $3 a wash it ended up not really being a savings for us. But if you live in your own home I have friends who save lots of money doing it.

FYI I had tried pre-folds on DD but ended up liking the All in Ones Better.

You can try all sorts of cloth diapers for a month thru Jillian's Drawers - they are based in upstate NY but its all done via the mail and then you can decide what you like and what works for you. They also sell gently used diapers.

I plan on cloth diapering...I have started building my stash - i definitely love it for the a cost savings but also because it's environmently friendly (there are also many who contend that cloth diapering leads to less diaper rash and kids in cloth diapers potty train quicker, but i am sure that's a matter of opinion). Check out sites like Nicki's diapers and Kelly's closet - they have good sales and give freebies when you order a certain amount. Also, Zulily will occasionally have cloth diaper sales.

I have ordered econobum prefolds, econobum and kawaii covers, Fuzzibunz pocket diapers, and some all in ones. There are many diffferent types so i am ordering a few different ones to see what works best for us.

If you search for co-ops on Facebook, its really the cheapest way to get diapers. If you want to FM me your Facebook, I can add you to a few. Basically its a.group buy, and you get wholesale prices on diapers. I have an order in one and Im getting 24 all in ones for $90.

I started CD with my Chat Icon -- I love it.

I do cloth half the time - when we're at home. When we're out and about or at night I use sposies.

Ebay or swap groups on FB are a great place to get them -- or you can join a co-op to get the best price on them.

Do it! You won't regret it. It's much easier than it seems right now, I promise.

I've been CDing for 9 months thanks to someone on lif that started me out with her extra dipes and knowledge! I love it! The best part is when people give me crazy looks lol

But I do think you save money because after you purchase your stash, you're not buying diapers anymore, plus if you take care of them, you can possibly use them for future kids.

I use a cheaper brand of diapers called sunbabys. And they are one size. So I've been using the same 24 diapers since dd was 4 months. My whole stash cost about $120 so far for 9 months of diapering.

Try nickisdiapers.com They have the nicki's brand and the imagine brand. They are more expensive then Alva, Sunbaby, or Kawaii, but a better quality.

I did prefolds and covers for the nb stage, and my stash is mixed with perfect size fuzzibunz and rumparooz one size. I have cloth diapered 2 kids and used my original diapers with both. All and all my stash was about $1000 for everything. DIapers, wet bags, wipes, extra inserts, pail liners, and so on. I did have 2 in diapers so I needed more. I have sold some and bought a few new ones for #3 but still $1000 to diaper 3 kids?????? That is a flipping awesome deal! My small fuzzibunz worked until 9 months and they went into mediums and my daughter wore them until she was potty trained. My son is 2 and in them now and will stay there until pt also. Plus they have a sale at nicki's as well. We use Original Tide liquid and it works great. I tried the fancy ones and they sucked lol. The hardest part was getting my wash routine down, but once I was not scared it went great.

I did have some cheaper diapers, but it was a bad batch and delaminated quick. I said no way after that I went with the rumparooz and fuzzibunz. I never looked back and love my stash!

My suggestion would be

2 pail liners or 2 hanging wet/dry bags form planet wise
2 wet bags in medium for travel
Bottle of Tide Original
2 packs of Gerber baby wash cloths for wipes if you want to try them. I suggest it!
A cheap small spray bottle for water to use with the wipes
Grandma EL's cream
A Dozen prefolds. You can also trifold them and just lay them in a cover.
3 Rumparooz covers and get the nb covers if you are doing nb prefolds Perfect for on the go. It's a hybrid system just cheaper!
24 diapers to wash every 2 days or so. You could do all in ones, or a mix
If you do all in ones when baby gets bigger or for bedtime I would buy some joey bunz small hemp inserts to layer on top for extra absorbency.

*I have 12 smalls, 12 mediums in the fuzzibunz, and 12 rumparooz I bought. I like the velcro for adjusting, but snaps do wear better.*

hey ladies. Just wanted to update you all that I have been CDing for a little under a month now and I Love it. It's really not as hard or as gross as I thought it could be. I actually enjoy changing cloth diapers much more than sposies. It makes me feel good to know that there are less diapers with human waste going into landfills and causing contamination and my boys fluffy bum is just too cute. I even enjoy doing my cloth diaper laundry if you can believe that. I've learned alot and even have a co-op buy coming in for 10 more diapers this week and hubby will be installing my diaper sprayer this week.
