Cold turkey with diapers
I think I just have to do it! DD will be 3 in Jan and has been potty training for over a year now. She first started using the toilet at least once a day during Hurricane Sandy (of all times)! FF to now. Sometimes she tells me she has to go, but most of the time she doesn't. She ALWAYS tells me at night, which is funny because that's usually the harder part. During the day, she gets lazy or wrapped up in playing and doesn't tell me. We've done sticker charts. She gets the concept. She fills them up over time and gets rewards but she still isn't potty-trained. I keep waiting for her to just be ready on her own, but my friends tell me I just need to get rid of the diapers. I've done underwear before, but after she has one accident, she asks for the diapers back.
So my question is....do I have to stay home for a few days? She is in underwear today. We are back and forth to the bathroom A LOT. I have errands to run including food shopping, but I'm afraid to take her out in underwear. But also don't want to put the diapers back on.
Pull ups don't seem to work for us. She just views them as diapers.

Re: Cold turkey with diapers
I would go cold turkey. Bring a change of clothes just in case and wherever you go bring her to the bathroom. This way she gets used to going in public places and knows its ok. My biggest concern was always an accident in the carseat. Good luck!

Re: Cold turkey with diapers
I cut diapers cold turkey at 28 months and it took Dd a week to train (we still use Pull Ups at night). I stayed in for most of the first 3 days, and put her in a diaper when I had to run out bc I was scared...but I think that's why it took a week, bc I confused her at first.
Then I bought a portable potty, and ventured out w/ no diapers and she did great!
The first few days of no diapers were messy, but 7 days later we were diaper and accident free, so I say cold turkey is the way to go.
Good luck! I also used M&Ms as immediate reward for every time he went in the potty. (My Dd will do anything for 2 M&Ms).

Just realized I posted this on wrong board, but thanks for response! She has gone in public before but in general puts up a lot of resistance to it.

Re: Cold turkey with diapers
We did cold turkey and it worked for us. No diapers or pull ups day and night. I stayed home for 2 days before I ventured out DS without I diaper. I have a potty (Potette plus) in the car which was great because before we went into a store and when we came back out, I made him pee. Good luck!

Re: Cold turkey with diapers
Thanks all. So far we've been in...I'm putting off food shopping. Of course, she has nursery school tomorrow morning, so this should be interesting!

i used the 3 day potty trainning method and you have to take all dipaers away including at night.
i followed it and it worked for during the day at night it did not work after about month of trying no pullup i gave in and put pullup on her at night. she is still wearing htem at almost 3 at night but i really havent made that much of an effort for night training again.
and with the 3 day method you are not suppose to do anythign but pay attention to her for3 days

Cold turkey with diapers
That's about when I went cold turkey with my sister (I raised my sister in the early years). If we were going out, I would ask her to go, if she said no (especially if we were heading to the park) she would wet herself and we'd have to go back home.
