2nd birthday party dilemma

DS 2nd birthday is a few months away but I like to plan ahead.

My problem is whether to have "family" parties at the house or have a larger one at a place. If I have a family one I would have to have at least 2 separate ones- one for my family and one for IL because they do NOT get along but they both equally want to be a part of his special day. But I would also like to have one with DS friends- he is in day care and he likes the kids there. He talks about them at home- I think he'd be happy to see them. Plus all my friends have kids around the same age and i'd invite them. So either 3 home parties (plus the hassle of preparing food and cleaning before and afterwards 3times), OR have a party at a place.
It would have to be inside (winter birthday) and large enough where my family and IL can stay away from each other, but not super large bc there would only be maybe 12 kids. But I don't know of many places appropriate for a 2 year old. I don't know if he would "get" Chuckie Cheese. Any ideas or recommendations?

I think you should def have it at a party place. I love Wood Kingdom! My 20 month old has a blast there! Also, your family can stay on one side of the place and your ILs on the other!

One Party.......it's your childs day & family has to learn to get along. If you split it then I would do family/ kids seperate. This is how I did my twins 2nd birthday.

I vote for one kid party at a place. Easy breezy. There won't be enough time for the grandparents to not get along. Our kids have a blast at kid parties at kid venues. Negative is that the adult friends don't really get to talk either.

Gymboree and My Gym do good parties for the 2yo set. We had a 2yo party at Moon Soup and a 2yo party at My Gym for the second DS.

I'm having DS's 2nd birthday party at Nunleys Carousel. The cost if for 25 kids/25 adults and a bunch of other stuff.

I wouldn't do separate parties for each side of the family because they'll expect you to do that every year. For the sake of your DS they should swallow their pride and just deal with being jn the same room for a few hours.
