Toddler sleeping through the night...HELP

Hi all,

I have an 18 month old that wakes up about 3 times a night for a bottle. Basically she wines, we give her a bottle and she drinks it and falls back to sleep. I feel like this is getting a little crazy and she needs to start to sleep through the night and not drinking so many bottles. She is a big girl for her age (35 inches tall, 33 pounds) and eats normally for her age (3 meals at dinner and a snack). She is basically only have bottles at nap time and at night.

My 3 year old gave up bottles at 15 months and was always a good sleeper so this is new to me.

Do you feel this is normal and I should wait it out? Any advice would help.

Thank you!

It's there any way you can soothe her without giving her a bottle?

Waking 3x a night at that age for food is not normal.

I would do CIO. Right now it's a habit of waking and you need to break it.

I have to agree. My DD is 17 months and has pretty much been STTN since about 3 months old. She did regress for about a month and was waking up once a night to nurse. When I took her for her normal dr visit the dr told me to stop nursing her at night, she didn't need it anymore... that was at about 6 months old. We did CIO 2 nights and she was fine after that. Now she sleeps 12 hrs every night without a problem. I also want to add that she is super tiny, 21 lbs, so she is much less likely to STTN than a heavier baby. It's def time to cut out the night time feedings, IMO.

Re: Toddler sleeping through the night...HELP

Thank for your imput. I tried giving a pacifier even though i didnt want to start that habbit but she wouldnt take it.
I felt this was a little out of the normal but wanted to make sure. Shes not even really crying just awake and whining until she gets us up until we give her a bottle and it helps her go back to bed. Ive tried tucking her back in and telling her that i am just here but it does work.
Thanks.. And any more imput would be appreciated.

She wines til she get a bottle because it's a habit now and she expects it. Stop with the bottles and she will self soothe. At 18 months they should be able to fall back asleep on their own.

At 15 months, DD started waking a lot and being impossible to get back to sleep (I was in the process of weaning and she wanted to nurse at night but was frustrated with my supply at the time). I eventually started affecting bedtime too and was making it hard to get her down for the night. We finally did CIO at bedtime and took away her music soother and gave her just a lovey and her white noise. She sttn from the first night on (although she cried for 40 minutes at bedtime). She occasionally wakes if she has a late night or misses a nap and is overtired but that's it. Check out troublesometots.com. Reading that site was really helpful to me when I was at the end of my rope.

ita
its habit for her to get a bottle to comfort her and put her back to sleep
at 18 months she should be able to self soothe and put herself back to sleep

we did CIO for dd at 6 months old bc i knew she didnt need the feeding...she just wanted us/comfort/cuddle time. she is 8.5 months and sleeps 12 hours straight

Re: Toddler sleeping through the night...HELP

The only way to stop it is to let her cry.

DS was the same way and has gotten better, now at 2 yrs old he sleeps through the night and generally doesnt wake for a bottle until 5 or 6 and then goes back to sleep but we were in the bottle 3 times a night phase for a long time, we tried to make him cry but gave in everytime Chat Icon

Sorry you're going through this, i think it has become habit now to wake for a bottle, i agree with the other ladies, you should try CIO.

I had the same thing with one of my twins. He was 10 months when I did CIO. First night he cried for 20 mins, 2nd night for 5 and after that, slept though the night
