would you keep working?
went in today for my first internal today at 38w...1-2 cm dilated and 75% effaced doc said her head is really low and made a comment that I could have a halloween baby.
I plan on making this my last week of work but Im commuting into the city and am delivering at SB. DH wants me to stay home but I obvi want to try and work as much as I can. Would you keep going into the city and working another week or try to cut out early?

Re: would you keep working?
you have to do what you are comfortable with DH was worried about me going into labor while at work too (i work in the bronx, he works in manhattan and we were delivering at LIJ new hyde park). i didnt want to fight so i did as DH requested and stopped work 1 week before my due date...well i ended up sitting home for 2 weeks before DD arrived
if you do continue to work, i would just make sure you go home each day and be prepared to not come in the next day - have all your work done with no loose ends just in case

If YOU feel up to it and dr says it is ok, I would keep working til you feel like you can't anymore.
I worked the day I delivered DS, but he was a preemie and not expected to come then.

this is what im dealing with now. DH really doesn't want me to go in. It's about a 2 hour commute door to door and he's convinced im going to deliver in manhattan if i don't stay home. I planned on taking the week before my due date off which means I would be working next week but with the bit of progress im ade DH is really adamant about me not going back the last week. UGH

Re: would you keep working?
I stopped working at 38 weeks with my 1st DS. Im glad I did, it was nice to have that down time before the baby came. I was induced past my due date, but I knew that was my last few weeks of sleeping.

iits frustrating and that is why i gave in. in the end, having DH stressed out was not worth it bc what was i gaining by staying at work an extra week? he was worried we wouldnt get to the hospital, i would end up delivering in the bronx and he wouldnt be able to get to me on time etc. of course i said that wont happen, ill know when im in labor etc...but really, you never know what will happen. and if one of those things did happen i would have felt terrible! being that DH is so adamant for you to stop working I would consider it. having a baby is stressful enough - having DH stressing over other things and calling to check in on me every hour just wasnt worth it! i will admit, it was nice having some down time before LO arrived good luck with whatever you decide

Re: would you keep working?
I had to stop working at 35 weeks due to threatened preterm labor. DH took one look at me in the hospital and said I was done working. Dr agreed. I did plan on working till the end but had to commute 45min to one hour a day and a lot of my job involves driving Personally I'm due in 2 days and have been very grateful to be home this week as I'm increasingly uncomfortable but if you feel ok to keep working them do it. Only you know how you feel each day

Re: would you keep working?
I worked until after my due date but I didn't have the kind of commute you do. If you are feeling ok i would probably work another week and then stop since your DH really wants you to.
If this is your first child you could stay at 1-2 cm for another two weeks with no change, and even if you do go into labor it will *most likely* start slow and you'll have plenty of time to get home, so that may put your DH's mind at ease for the next week.

Re: would you keep working?
I say do what you ate comfortable with. The 2 hour commute definitely complicates things. I was 2cm and I think 80% at 38 weeks, having some regular contractions. DD was born 2 days later.

Re: would you keep working?
Can you work from home the last week or 2?
I personally would work until the end because I'd prefer more time home with the baby, rather than just sitting at home. Also, labor is not usually so quick that you wouldn't have time to get home.
I had been laid off so I wasn't working at the end of my pregnancy, but I was still taking the subway into the city to see my OB though the end. I wound up going into labor one morning when DH was at work. I drove myself into Manhattan (not recommended, but I did it!) to have DS.

Re: would you keep working?
You have to do what you think is best! I worked 2 days past my due date, and I'm glad I did, because the baby was born 11 days late (induction). I didn't have any sign of labor coming, I wasn't dilated at all. But you are, so if you feel that you have a good chance of going early, then take the time off from work. Nothing wrong with that! I can understand your fear of going into labor in Manhattan, I was worried about that too. The thing is, you just never know what's going to happen, so just do what you feel most comfortable with.

I give you credit for working up til now. I stopped commuting at 36w and that wasn't even soon enough for me! Lol. I was just sooo uncomfortable! Once you do go into labor, chances are you will have plenty of time.

This except DH works in Melville and I delivered at S. Nassau. I was more worried then he was. I stopped 2 weeks before because I wasn't feeling well the last week I worked. It figures I felt fine those 2w home till my due date came and went.

Re: would you keep working?
I would take it day by day and see how you feel. If I even felt the slightest bit different or any other labor symptoms I would stop immediately.
