drug-free delivery?
Is anyone planning on or has anyone had having a drug-free delivery? I have been doing a lot of research on it, and I feel I want to try.

Re: drug-free delivery?
Yes that was my goal last time. I got weak around 7/8cm and got the epidural. It worked for 20-30 minutes and then it didn't work, so I pretty much did it drug free.
I plan on doing it drug free this time, and not caving in at 7/8 cm!
I suggest doing prenatal yoga.
Also, the following book, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth.
You can do it!!

I definitely second this book. Also, I didn't get a chance to take the classes, but I read a book on the Bradley method which I felt offered a great perspective on your body during labor and I used a lot of it.
I got all the way to 9cm with 40+ hours of back labor without any pain meds but ultimately after five hours at 9cm I ran out of options and had to have a c-section, but I totally could have and would have made it all they way if not for that.
You can definitely do it! Our bodies are made for this and we are able to handle more than we give ourselves credit for!

Sorry you made it that long and had to have a c-section. :(
Yes, you definitely can. Our bodies are made for this!!! I agree about the Bradley method. My husband and I went to a class for that.

I did it with DD#1 and plan on doing it again with this pregnancy. I'll spare the details here but you can read my birth story if you would like.

drug-free delivery?
I had a drug free delivery with DD. I knew it was what I wanted and I too agree that our bodies were made for this. My Mom had two drug free births, I figured I could do it too.
I didn't actually read anything or take any classes, I just figured my many years of yoga and hours I have spent contemplating breathing would help and it certainly did.
In the end, I also got extremely lucky. I must have labored overnight and not realized it because the morning DD was born, I woke up feeling fine, thinking it was just like any other day and she was born less than 3 hours later. I almost didn't make it to the hospital, so even if I had wanted an epi, I wouldn't have been given one, DD was born within minutes of me entering the delivery room., 3 pushes later.
Good luck, you can do it!!

Re: drug-free delivery?
i would like to go drug-free. my mom did it with me and sis so why not me? that being said if it gets too painful I am not against the epi. I just would rather do without any extra anything in my system.

Re: drug-free delivery?
We are going to try this go round. Tried the first time but I was in labor for two days and by the time I checked into the hospital on day #2 and the nurse told me I was only 2cm, I caved. I ended up with an emergency c-section anyway. We are taking bradley's again since it was five years ago when we took it the first time around.

drug-free delivery?
I went drug free and didn't do anything special (breathing, books, yoga, etc)...I just didn't want drugs and didn't get them.
My labor was pretty short but honestly I didn't find it to be overly painful--just a lot of pressure which I was able to tolerate.

Re: drug-free delivery?
I would have liked to, and I know a few people who have. I had to be induced long past my due date, and the contractions on Pitocin were so excruciating that I needed the epidural by the time I got to 4 cm. I wonder if I hadn't been induced if I would have been able to handle it without drugs, who knows. Everyone's body perceives pain to a different extent. So just hope for the best but be flexible just in case it's not possible. But you can definitely do it! Good luck!

Re: drug-free delivery?
I am hoping to go drug free...
I had spine surgery & have rods/screws in the area they would stick the epi so my Dr. wants me to meet with the anesthesiologist to see if an epi is even possible. DH laughed when I told him I wanted to try drug free lol

drug-free delivery?
This is my first pregnancy, but have the goal of a natural, drug-free delivery. I was a little anxious about it at first, especially because when people heard what I want I would hear things like "You're crazy.... Just wait, etc." My husband and I are taking the Bradley classes which have been so reassuring. That, along with prenatal yoga, I feel as prepared as I can be. Let me know if you want any recommendations for any of the classes (not sure which area of LI you're in)- our Bradley instructor has been awesome!

We are doing the same thing! We also are delivering at NUMC with a midwife, so we have the option of using the tub, moving around, etc. I am really hoping that I am able to do it!

drug-free delivery?
I think whatever your plan is, it's important you go into the day with an open mind. My one friend insisted that she wanted a drug-free hypnobirth. Her DS had to be born via emergency c-section because the cord was wrapped around his neck. Then another friend wanted every drug imaginable but when her contractions came, they weren't consistent and even though she thought she was in labor, the doctor's office discouraged her from going to the hospital. She went to her doctor instead, her water breaks on the table, they yell at her why she waited that long (asinine) and she was sent to the hospital ASAP. She had no choice but to do it with no drugs. Once she survived it with #1 she did it again with #2.
So plans are good but you just never know.

drug-free delivery?
i went drug-free with my first. I read the bradley book and practiced all the bradley exercises.
My labor lasted for about 23 hrs but I went to the hospital only when the contractions were 5 mins apart & I was 5 cm dilated.

drug-free delivery?
Had I gone into labor without the need of induction, I would have gone drug free. As much as I would loved to go as "natural" as possible, I didn't build any expectations. I read from a lot of ladies here is that, on the day of, you just go with the flow because ultimately, as much as you would like to be in control, circumstances can be different.
Good luck, and I hope you get to deliver the way would like as safely as possible.

Re: drug-free delivery?
With my DD I think I got my epi too early. It def slowed things down which led to me getting pitocin - and then my epidural stopped working.
This time I am going to try and hold as long as possible. Have you seen "The business of Being Born"? If so there are some very inspiring stories regarding drug free births.
