18 weeks with Spotting Question
Hi ladies, I am half way through week 18 - almost week 19 and last night I had some spotting after a bowel movement where there was a little straining (sorry TMI!) I almost went to the ER but the on call doctor told me to wait and come in this morning. I did, and they the dr did an internal exam and sonogram and said that everything looked fine. The baby's heart rate was about 140 and the cervix was closed, placenta looked fine. He said it was probably a fluke thing like a blood vessel on the cervix that popped. I was so relieved, but I still feel very nervous and anxious about this. If the baby's heart is beating, is there a chance that the blood could still indicate an impending MC or no? I had a MC before at 8 weeks so I'm just really scared. Any advice or experience would be appreciated!!

Re: 18 weeks with Spotting Question
I'm 17 weeks and have been spotting since BFP. It's coming from my cervix (confirmed via sono and internal exam) and is not a risk to the baby. Every time I have a bowel movement, the bleeding is a little heavier. I imagine it aggravates the cervix somehow. The other thing to consider is where the blood came from - are you sure it was vaginal? Could be hemorrhoids. GL

THIS! Are you sure it was vaginal? I had the exact same thing happen to me at 18 weeks during my last pregnancy and I was beyond freaked out. But after careful examination, I self diagnosed that it was a hemorrhoid popping or smt in that area and not vaginal. If you have no other symptoms and you already confirmed that the baby is ok via sonogram, I think it's safe to calm down a bit.

Re: 18 weeks with Spotting Question
Thanks ladies! Yes I am positive it was vaginal. After the bowel movement I peed once or twice and there was still little remnants of the blood. I haven't had any since so I'm hoping it was just a fluke blood vessel like the doctor said. I feel like today I have more stretching pain and pressure down there and I'm reading into everything but really praying it's all normal.
