Pre-labor contractions?

(Sorry this turned out to be long...)

All weekend I had been having cramping on and off, and I attributed it to me overextending myself (I worked on Saturday, went to a wedding Saturday night, walked the breast cancer walk on Sunday).

Yesterday, the feeling persisted on and off while at work, but I chalked it up to being Braxton Hicks. After I got home from work, it was still nagging me so I decided to call the dr. and they asked me to come in.

After being hooked up to the fetal monitor, they said I was having contractions every 4-5 mins and they sent me over to L&D to get hooked up to an IV to slow the contractions. I've seen a few other ladies experience similar things so I wasn't worried. After 2 hours on the IV (and an internal exam to confirm that my cervix is still "thick and long") they sent me home.

But the thing is, today I've been experiencing the pains all over again. What do I do from here? I'm 34w2d and they told me just stay hydrated and eat more frequently and I will be having weekly appointments from here on out.

Will these pre term contractions eventually send me into actual labor? Sometimes they're more intense than others but I'm never in a lot of pain. It's just confusing and I don't want to be one of those people who's calling the dr. every 5 seconds...

Re: Pre-labor contractions?

I've had those since 35 weeks. My doctor pulled me out of work. The only think that helped me was drinking a Ton of water and laying on my left side and resting. Sorry your going through this Chat Icon
I'm 39 weeks and 2 days and still hanging I'm there. Waiting for them to turn more real

Re: Pre-labor contractions?

I had contractions like that during my 1st pregnancy. Unfortunately the baby didn't want to come on his own and I ended up being induced 5 days after my due date. Lots of rest will help.

Re: Pre-labor contractions?

thank you for the feedback. I've just been really nervous about how this could affecting the rest of my pregnancy. at least I know others have gone through it and we're able to keep those babies cooking a little while longer!!

Re: Pre-labor contractions?

I had contractions when I was almost 28 weeks. Hooked up to an IV and had 2 rounds of meds to stop. Went to the dr a few days later and was still have occasional contractions. I will still get them if I over do it so I've learned to take it easy and stay hydrated. I also will lay down on my left side and rest.

Rest!!!
