bottles & binkeys, how bad are they?
DD turned 2 in July & she still has both
The bottle is only in the morning & she doesn't always want one anyway.
It's our cuddle time when she wakes up so I kind of like it.
The binkey, on the other hand, I HATE it!
She's always been an addict with that stupid thing!
For the past year it's only for nap & bedtime.
She's so terrible at soothing herself to sleep (still ) so I don't want to take it away.
Is it really bad for them medically, teeth or germ- wise. I've heard kids with them get sick more often but I don't know if it's true.

bottles & binkeys, how bad are they?
I don't know if there is any connection with getting sick more often. But I know that neither are good for their oral motor development, as they encourage improper muscle development, and can often cause speech delays.

DD had 1 bottle at 2 and then we phased it out no problem. Ped said it wasn't an issue Bc they really are still babies and like you said we loved the cuddle time.
She gave up the binky on her own at 4 months so I can't comment on that, but from what I heard the longer you leave it the harder it is to take away. Either way she will get through it lol, you may just be tired for a few nights!

my son is almost 3.5 and still sleeps with his "bop" paci. It is restricted to his bed. We dropped bottles at 15 months.
Santa will be taking his bops this year, in exchange for some pretty awesome gifts. I hope it goes over well    
Don't stress it, she is still little!
ETA on the sick thing ... my son is one of the healthiest kids ever. Has not really been sick (besides a bit of a cough or runny nose) since he was under a year. Just make sure you clean the pacis regularly especially during flu season.

Pretty much this.
DD still takes her binky at night and in times of real stress. We are doing the santa thing too.
I can tell you it definitely has affected her teeth- I can see her bite is off.
I am hoping it corrects itself somewhat when we are finally rid of it.
In terms of speech delay- not for us! DD spoke early and now she speaks non stop- full sentences, paragraphs, big words, expressions, clear as a bell. It didn't affect her speech at all.
And like the quoted poster- she is RARELY sick.
She probably picks up more germs putting toys in her mouth at daycare.

I think the only issue with extended pacifier use is with the teeth. Our dentist said he can tell which kids used a pacifier at all past age 2. So, the longer they use it, the more likely that braces are in your future.

I was going to say something like this...I drank my bottle until a pretty late age (not saying how old out of sheer embarrassment), and it totally screwed with the shape of my mouth.

DD is almost 2 and a half and still loves her baba...its her comfort thing, she uses straw water bottles and will drink out of a cup at meals but for comfort she needs the baba.
she gave up the paci at 1 by herself...
might try the santa thing

Bottle if it is only the one u wouldn't stress about ut. Both my boys were paci addicts. Ds 1 gave it up at 3.5 on his own so there was no trauma. DS2 gave it up right before he was 4. He threw it out the day before ds3 was born. Never looked back. We have never had an ear infection and only minor colds so no I don't think paci kids get sick more often

Bottles DS never really used, but the binkey - "boppy" as he called it he used ALL the time. We tried limiting it to just nap & bed time & that worked, but his pallet was narrow. We planned on stopping (also by the advice of his dentist) at age 2, but 2 short weeks before we were forced to go cold turkey because they all had "cracks" and he couldn't suck them anymore. It was hell, but thankfully we got through it & now that he's 4 his pallet went back to normal without the aid of any device (thank God!)
