Ring Bearer - is it OK to say no?
I found out yesterday that MIL's cousin's son is going to ask DS 1 to be his ring bearer. I almost fell over in shock since DS has only met him a handful of times and probably doesn't even remember his name and DH and I aren't close to him at all (we're not even friends on FB if that says anything).
The wedding is in less than two months and is over an hour away from where we live (and we don't have anyone we know that lives close by).
It would be a lot of work on our end and a hassle getting DS to dress up and walk down the aisle.
Is it bad etiquette to say no?

Oops - I started writing the post and then erased it and forgot to add that part back in.
No - I didn't think he would be invited. There were times we were debating going as well since we have a two weddings the two weekends beforehand.

I would def not feel bad about saying no. My DS was in my SIL wedding and after that I will say no to anyone that isn't immediate family

I think you can turn it down and it's fine. But do you think your son would enjoy it? If you plan on going to the wedding and you think your son would have fun, then why not?

Say no! Why would they ask your DS if you're not even close to them? It sounds like they are just looking to have a ring bearer and DS is their only option. (No offense!)

I don't think he'd really enjoy it - he hates dressing up (it's a fight to even get jeans and a sweater on him) and he isn't going to know many people (just DH, my inlaws, and me - and my MILs cousin since he sees her once every few months).

None taken, that's what I am thinking as well - they started thinking what 4 year old boys do they know and voila!

We said no to SIL. DS was 13 months and they were getting married outside in the middle of August. I had no idea if he would be walking by then and what the weather would be like or even what his personality would be like ( he was 8 weeks old when she asked us). We said no, he was there as a guest, and it was fine.

I think it's rude to say no and still bring him to the wedding. Were you bringing him anyway? I think the only way to get out of it and still bring him is to say it was sweet of them to think of your DS but he gets really nervous and shy and that the extra attention would be too much for him that he woul be better off just attending. It is odd of them to ask but they are not entirely strangers to the family. What does your DH think?

I would personally be THRILLED if anyone asked DS to be ring bearer but that is for selfish reasons bc I would love to see him as ring bearer HAHAH
That said no way it is rude, considering they barely know you're kid they should understand
