Tell me where you've vacationed alone.

This is something I've been considering for a few months and would love some ideas. I'm open to anything.

It's still up in the air but I would love to hear some experiences. And any tips you may have.

I went to Sanibel Island by myself. One of the best things I've ever done! Took long walks on the beach, went for bike rides, had a spa day. I was in a place where I needed to clear my head and this was perfect!

Well, I'm going to India alone to study yoga in January! I've traveled for business alone but never for pleasure. Am very excited about it!

Where are you thinking of going? I have a friend who used to travel to The BodyHoliday in St. Lucia alone every year before she got married. LOVED it and made a lot of friends from all over the world too

In my heyday I backpacked Europe alone. Everyone thought I was nuts but it was the best experience of my life. Met tons of people. Didn't know where I was sleeping from one night to the next lol.....

My "Let's Go Europe" was my best friend. So wherever you decide to vacation maybe get a Lonely Planet guidebook?

Years ago, I did Club Med Turquoise by myself. Had an awesome time.
I've done Quebec on my own, and a couple of day/overnight trips in Europe when I was home visiting family.

Not me personally but a friend of mine went on a trip to Australia for a month, she had a great time.

Not sure I want to do the beach/island thing. I'm thinking more along the lines of getting out there and sight seeing. Maybe even going with a tour group.

I have a friend who is a teacher and goes on a trip by herself every summer. This year she did Australia/New Zealand. Last year she went to Thailand/Vietnam and some other places in that area. She always has an amazing time ang meets lots of interesting people.

How long do you want to go for?

You could do a cruise alone.

It can be a good mix of alone time/ meeting people. You could go on tours and you could opt for dining with other people.

I went on a 10 day Mediterranean one
(with family) that was great for sightseeing.

I've also travelled for business alone and added on sight-seeing. I am comfortable doing that in cities where there is a lot to do and it is easy to get around, like DC, Montreal or Chicago.

I used to travel alone at times for work. Aside from backpacking in Europe when I was younger alone I have started traveling alone on my birthdays. This year I am hoping to see the Great Wall of China ( visas seem to be the issue). Every year I want to see a wonder of the world alone.
Last year was Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe /Zambia. I have also been to Switzerland, Portugal, England , Scotland alone in the past few years. There are many places I would like to see alone but have been advised not to. I really enjoy traveling alone ( sojourn) and if you want you wind up meeting a lot more people (tourists and local )
Bring books too! Most of the time you want to remain alone and soak it up

Just wanted to add that a friend vacationed in London alone & loved it. She is a city girl though--and has lived in NY & Chicago so she has no problem navigate trains & crowded areas.
