Age for American Girl Dolls?

My DD is asking for an American Girl doll, she is going to be 4.5 at Christmas time.

Do you think that is too young?

What age did you first give your DD an American Girl Doll and if it was around 4.5 did she play with it a lot?

Re: Age for American Girl Dolls?

DD is 4. She received a bitty baby at 2 and an AG doll at 3 1/2. The only reason I gave it to her at 3 1/2 is that I got it on the today show steals and deals for $50 last year. She received one for her birthday and we just went to the AG store on 10/6 to celebrate her 4th birthday. My parents and in-laws actually gave her the doll for her first hanukkah when she was 2 months old, but I kept in in the closet until now. She likes playing with them, and loves playing with her accessories. She loved the AG doll store (we all did). The reason we went this year is that my grandma (her great grandma) is getting older, and I would rather have her with us and enjoy it. As we all said, we can always go back when DD is older. So my long winded answer is that I think 4 is a great age for a girl that loves dolls. You could do one bitty twin as it is smaller than the AG doll but it has hair which is nice. DD loves brushing her dolls hair.

I think it depends on the child. My older one at that age wasn't into them. Now at 6 she loves hers and takes good care of hers but isn't all that "into" them. They sit lovingly on her bed and she does care for them and asks for new outfits.

Now my 4.5 yr old plays with hers extensively. She started at 2 with a bitty baby she took everywhere. Then the twins at 2.5 or 3. Now she got last christmas around 3.5 the just like me one. She got Marie Grace for her 4th birthday. She did the lunch for her 4the birthday as well. She playes with hers daily. She brushes the hair changes the clothes. She has two small bins for the clothes and actually folds them and puts them away when she changes them.

They are gifts from my parents so maybe I don't mind as much. My DD however has gotten cheaper dolls recommended on here and never plays on them. She sat down today with the catalog and told my mom which outfits and dolls she is asking santa for.

Will the doll get lots of love or forgotten in a few days. I have spent a lot of cheaper dolls that never got played with so I would rather get a more expensive doll that is very loved.
