Their adjusted age would be 7 or 8 months considering their prematurity. If you go by that they're not behind at all.
Maybe they could call EI for an eval to ease their minds.

twins not sitting up
my twins are 10 months (9 months adjusted) and one has been sitting on his own since 7 months. the other one can sit if we put him in sitting position at 9 months, but still doesnt put himself that way.
they have been crawling since 7 months (army crawl, just now starting to crawl normal)
they are fine, especially since they were born premature. i wouldnt worry. just give them plenty of time to try and sit on their own. put them sitting in boppys or bumbos.

Re: twins not sitting up
Put them in a boppy and sit them between your legs with an upright toy as much as you can. summer infant seat and bumbo work too. My girls weren't sitting on their own at their 6 mo apt and the ped said they should be by 7.5/8 mo. they were 4 weeks early. Twins are often behind even if they are full term for some reason. My girls sat unassisted at 6.5 and about 7 mo, and now both walked at 11.5 mo.

Re: twins not sitting up
I have 8 month twins (born 4 weeks early) and they are not crawling, but they are sitting One of them is an excellent sitter, and she can get on her belly and get around a little. My larger twin is getting MUCH better at sitting but absolutely REFUSES to be on belly or even TRY to crawl, he just flips over and thats it!
My first son was SLOW to do ALL of these tasks, but eventually it all evened out, and he caught up.
I would try not to worry too much. I do think babies have their own time frame, and in my experience it's different for every single one (even my twins are doing things at different times)
But, EI can always do an evaluation of they feel its warranted, and they will do a nice workup and give you exercise ideas.

Re: twins not sitting up
My sisters son is 9 months old and not sitting. He will sit if you put him that way for a few minutes, but he really just doesnt want to sit - he gets right to his belly so he can play. She called EI to have him evaluated and he did not qualify for services. She is trying not to worry too much, but it is hard.
