...for emptying my checking account. Cool. Between all my every other day co pays, upcoming Accupuncture, DH birthday on Friday.... Perfect timing *** thief to read my card, copy it, and make fraudulent purchases until my balance is 0. cool.

How did your bank not catch this? I have NEFCU and the 2 times my account got hacked they held up the first purchase until they could reach me - and they did this one time when it was me and I was just purchasing something outside of my usual pattern.
I'm so sorry, that really sucks. Will your bank make any effort to reclaim the $$ or reverse any of the charges?

wow, i am sorry this happend to you. Someone skimmed my ATM card once and got maybe 500 out of it but it stopped there because my bank (chase) caught on. You should not be held liable for any of the purchases, I hope they give you your money back soon. I hate these theives - Ive had to cancel various credit cards multiple times as well.

i'm so sorry! what bank do you use? I have Chase and twice they tried to get away with this but Chase caught on and never let the purchases go thru. I hope you get your money back fast!

That sucks, I'm sorry you have to go through that. I'm sure your bank will be able to refund all your money...but it might take a few days.

That is the WORST!!! I've had it happen to me a few times a few years back. Thankfully all the money came back but it still doesn't make things okay.

Thanks ladies. The bank - Citi - did not catch it because it was local purchases - about three miles away from my home ! Key food, walgreens, Duane reade - so I guess it didn't set off an alarm. I'm livid. The bank says it will take a few days to refund me.. But not the point - how the heck did this happen??

That is awful!!!! I'm so sorry Is your bank going to put the funds back? I have chase and that happened to me once. They froze my accounts, put the funds back, and sent me new cards.  People are F**KED UP!!!!

It is happening ALOT in Ny and LI! I had this happen to me two weeks ago- Citibank was very helpful and did refund within 48hrs. They told me it's the debit card- people are scanning the card info somehow. Don't worry, they will refund everything and you will have a protected account now. I'm still so paranoid though!

Thanks for letting me vent. I went to the precinct by work and they wouldn't even take a report - they said it's really bad right now - just like you said Lilly.
