Anyone been to Los Cabos?
I'm looking for info on the area, is there a town you can walk into, or is it pretty much stay on the resort, etc.
TIA!!

I've been there.
There are two towns - San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. They are connected by a road full of resorts.
When we went, we did no research and we stayed in San Jose del Cabo and didn't love it. The town was cute but, the more popular town was Cabo San Lucas and it was pricey/far from where we were.
I would stay closer to Cabo San Lucas if I ever returned. There is a Riu right outside the town that gets rave reviews.

I stayed at the Riu in Cabo San Lucas. It was a quick cab ride to town, we loved it.

We stayed at Marina fiesta in cabo San Lucas. Anywhere near the marina area, you can easily walk to all the bars, restaurants, beaches and activities. We loved it and def would not like to be confined to a resort only.

That's what I thought.
We were looking at the San Lucas area.

Re: Anyone been to Los Cabos?
I looked into going to Cabo, but decided against it for a couple of factors. Its mexico and you have to be careful with the water, i read alot of reviews of people getting sick from the water. Its still dangerous even though its on the baja peninsula. And you can not swim in the ocean. There is only a handful of places that are safe to swim because of the strong currents so its extremely dangerous to go on the beach, so its mostly pools only.
Make sure you read the Reviews of the Riu, there are way to many terrible reviews on this resort for my liking.

I wasn't under the impression Cabo was unsafe? Am I wrong? As far as the water, I've been to Mexico & never had an issue, but we go down with meds just in case & a full staff of friends who are PAs & Nurses and I avoid water washed raw items. I was a little concerned with the ocean, but I thought there were parts you could?
YES.....I saw the Riu Palace reviews & that concerns me most! We might be looking into another destination.

Re: Anyone been to Los Cabos?
Thank you for sharing...luckily I'm not hanging within the drug ring though.
I think Cabo might be out though, not because of safety, but more out of cost & time-zone inconvenience!

even if you aren't hanging with the drug ring, your money is still going to support a very corrupt country.
I really really wanted to take a trip there but morally I thought it would be wrong.

I feel it's wrong to label the whole country corrrupt due to the actions of criminals in select areas. Are certain areas very dangerous...absolutely, and I understand why some people wouldn't feel comfortable going to Mexico because of this fact. But many areas are still safe for tourists to visit. Look at this site to see heat maps of safe and unsafe places to travel in Mexico now:
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_6033.html
DH and I went to Riviera Maya (Playa del Carmen) in September and had an amazingly fabulous time. We felt safe at all times, left the resort to have dinner in town and met some incredible locals.
Like traveling anywhere you need to be aware of your surroundings (although it sounds like you've been to Mexico a bunch so you know the drill! ) Have fun whatever you decide!
