Question about breasts pump for DC #2 and ins?
I have the Medela freestlye from DC#1 and now preggo with #2 - what parts do I need to buy new for the pump and what can I reuse?
Also - I had gotten my pump through my insurance (paid in full) - has anyone tried getting the parts through insurance? Or a second pump?
TIA

Re: Question about breasts pump for DC #2 and ins?
I think, well, at least with my ins., I could get a new pump for each pregnancy. If you can't, or just don't need one, I wouldn't think you'd have to get all new parts unless the ones you have need replacing anyway. I'd probably get new valves and membranes to make sure it's working the most efficiently. Don't think insurance would cover that, but don't think they are too expensive.

I would try to get a new one from your insurance. If it's free or at very little cost to you why not? If you can't get a new one I think you will need this kit along with new tubing and shields: http://www.amazon.com/Medela-Freestyle-Spare-Parts-Kit/dp/B0018LLZXQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380831963&sr=8-1&keywords=medela+freestyle+spare+parts+kit

I'm pretty sure Medela makes a replacement parts kit, with valves, membranes, and tubing... All the parts you'd need if you bought the pump 2nd hand and wanted all new clean parts. That's what I plan to buy for #2. I'm surebtheyvsell it on Amazon. My ins doesn't cover pumps.

I thought all insurance had to cover them now
New Legislation
What's the new legislation about breast pumps? The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has adopted guidelines for several woman-specific health services to be covered by health plans. These services include "breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling." According to the HHS Web site Healthcare.gov, "Pregnant and postpartum women will have access to comprehensive lactation support and counseling from trained providers, as well as breastfeeding equipment." The Web site adds: "Breastfeeding is one of the most effective preventive measures mothers can take to protect their health and that of their children. One of the barriers for breastfeeding is the cost of purchasing or renting breast pumps and nursing-related supplies."
What does this legislation mean to me? This means that commercial health providers are now required by law to allow breast pumps as a covered expense for lactating women. There is some variation around co-pays, depending on your insurance carrier and plan.

I have a GHI NYC Union plan through my DH and we were grandfathered in to be exempt from Obamacare. I'm not complaining about it, I already paid for my breast pump anyway and hardly used it bc DD liked to nurse from the boob and not from a bottle.

Question about breasts pump for DC #2 and ins?
Just wanted to add that DH called our insurance and they will cover another pump 100% for this baby even though I got one covered last year for DS.
