Braces (for teeth) and Lasik - are they ok?

Hello everyone,

Now is the time of the year where people have to figure out their insurance for next year.
My wife wants to get both braces and lasik and wants to set aside money in the "HSA account", which is pre-taxed money, so thats a BIG savings. (like 30-50%)

But my concern is, can she do either procedures while pregnant?

I had a friend who got lasik while on her maternity leave (and she breastfed), but doing some web searches, it says Lasik is not recommended while pregnant or while nursing.

What do you all think?

What about braces?
I have read that when women are pregnant, their bodies release some kind of hormone, that makes their tendon/ligaments more stretchy/loose.

if this is true...wouldn't that cause a problem with the braces? (since teeth are held in place by tendons/ligaments)

Not sure about braces but Lasik is a no no. Your eyes change during pregnancy and the lasik likely won't work after she gives birth.

If she's pregnant, I'd probably avoid both. I don't think Lasik is allowed while pregnant.

And many women develop pregnancy gingivitis. Your gums swell, hurt and bleed easily. I couldn't imagine braces would feel good with all that already going on!
