If your child was denied EI for speech... Did you go to a private SLP?

Littlest one was denied recently. Which I knew he would be, as he's following same trend as his older sibling (who also was denied when he was younger)

Now I'm thinking of trying a private SLP. I have insurance. Do they usually cover this? I have to call on Monday and find out ..figured i would ask you all if you've done this.

I wonder if they are any ramifications - such as ... I'm supposed to contact the agency early next year to report any or no progress. Then they will test him again. But if I go the private route now, can that screw up anything later as far as the agency? And insurance?

Just thinking ahead I guess

Most insurance policies have some sort of speech benefit, although the specifics are dependent on the policy. As far as messing anything up...absolutely no. When it comes to this...the earlier you start treatment, the better the prognosis. Your dc may make so much progress that they will no longer need support. When you get re-evaluated for ei (if its necessary) they will do another formal assessment and determine if dc qualifies based on dcs performance compaired to age matched peers. As a child ages, more is expected of them, so sometimes a child previously denied at 18 mos, will qualify at 2 yrs. Definitely go for the private therapy...many people do this when they do not qualify for services through ei...no worries!

I've been trying to do what they advised me to do as far as getting speech going.. But no luck on my own here. I don't want to wait. Looks like I'll be making some calls on Monday.
