Moms who make baby food...
Do you only use organic produce? I can't seem to find organic squash...carrots...beans. Any ideas?
I don't know if I am better off using the organic jarred food. The ingredients say just squash and water... but there has got to be something else making it sit so long on a shelf without going bad. Gentically modified squash?!!?

Re: Moms who make baby food...
I can't comment on the jarred food, as I honestly never even looked into it. I made all my boys' baby food and used all organic produce. I am able to get most of the produce at local supermarkets (by me, Pathmark and Stop and Shop seem to be the best as far as chain supermarkets and organic selection), but there is also a natural market that is smaller, but 100% organic which I often use also. I think it can just take a little shopping around before you know where to find what you need. What area do you live? Maybe some people on here can suggest good stores?

If I can't find a particular thing, I buy stuff from the farmers market. Its fresher and certain farms, while not certified organic, are frequently gmo and pesticide free.
You can also find excellent organic frozen veggies. Eta I have no problem finding org stuff at trader Joes, fairway and whole foods

i used organic frozen veggies and shopped at trader joes and wild by nature. it wasn't too hard to find organic, of course it was more expensive.

Re: Moms who make baby food...
I tried to use all organic when making DDs baby food but there were a few things I couldn't find. If I couldn't find them Organic or from a Farm Stand/Farmers Market, I would just use regular. It's better to have homemade rather then jarred even if it is Organic jarred, because homemade taste more "real" then jarred IMO.

Re: Moms who make baby food...
no I don't. when I make peas, green beans or corn, I use the bag of frozen that you steam in the microwave.
carrots, I use organic from stop n shop. nature's promise I think is the brand.
I usually get squash and sweet potatoes from whole foods.
I buy organic when I can and when I see it, but I don't go crazy over it. homemade food is still "better" than jarred food to me - taste wise, nutrient wise, and just knowing the environment it's made in. then again, dd does also eat some jarred/pouch food bc there are certain flavors she likes.

I buy only organic- except for Avocado, Mango, and Banana. I use what's in season, and i get most of it at Wild by Nature, Fairway, and Trader Joe's.
