Sigh of relief

Well tomorrow I am 14w and my dr. called today with my materniT21 results. Test was negative thank God and I was strong and did not ask to know the sex. We will be team green again this time. Finally starting to relax and enjoy this pregnancy. Probably going to tell dd after the 20 week anatomy scan. She is gonna be so psyched.

I was offered the test because I will be 35 when I deliver. I accepted because when I did the nt scan and afp with my dd we had a 1 in 10 risk of downs. Everything turned out fine so I didnt want to deal with "odds" again. I wanted a yes or no.

What else does it test for? I will be 35 before I deliver too. They didn't have this with DS!

I am being offered the test because I am 37 and having twins. Apparently the screening isn't so good with twins. We are on the fence too. Mostly me. It is not as if I would do anything with the results. Part of me thinks if god forbid it is positive it will ruin my one and only pregnancy for me. DH wants to know just to prepare himself. So torn. We go oct 8th for our genetic testing appt and I don't know what to do! Each baby had a 1in 300 something chance. What do you ladies think? Yes or no??

The Matrrnit21 is considered a screening test just like the first trimester screen. My genetic counselor did not recommend getting the first trimester screen and the Maternit21 test (or a similar screen since now there are a few different versions of the test). While the Maternit21 test has a higher rate of accuracy it STILL is not diagnostic--currently the only two tests that are considered to be diagnostic are amino and chorionic villus testing.

Yes but the difference is that if you get a negative result on the materniT21 you have a 99.6% chance your baby is healthy. And if you get a positive result you have a 98.8% chance your baby does have downs. I like those odds a lit better than being given a ratio through the triple screen. Especially when there are so many fals3 positives.
