convertible seat- falling asleep question

So i just changed to the convertible seat in my car. My dd falls asleep alot in the car and with the infant seat it was fine i used the snap and go. But now everytime i take her out of the seat she wakes up and wont go back to sleep. Not if were home and not if were out. Do they eventually get used to it and sleep through it? Like right now shes sleeping and im just sitting in front of my house afraid to move her. Cause shes only napped about 1 hour total for the whole day. Shes lost an hour or more in nap time due to trying to move her.

Does this ever change?

Unfortunately, DS still wakes up when we move him unless he's REALLY tired (which is rare).

He's 11 months old.

I can sometimes move DD to her crib when we get home. Other times she wakes up. If we're out, she'll definitely stay up. Since she was a few months old she would open her eyes to see if we were home or out and would only go back to sleep if we were at home. The only good thing is she's gotten better about staying awake in the car. She only does one nap a day after lunch so we go out in the morning and usually head home for lunch so she'll stay awake most of the time. If she falls asleep for even 5 minutes she won't nap again for the day so I definitely prefer for her to stay up till we get home if possible.

If it's naptime or bedtime and my DD falls asleep in the car, she will wake up during the transfer, but will then go back down pretty easily once in her crib. Not so much if we have to transfer her to her stroller.

I think it depends on the kid. My DS will sleep through anything and sleep anywhere. We can take him out and he won't even flinch.

dd1. She very rarely slept in the car but if she did, that was her nap. She would never transfer. She's 3 now and now we can transfer her, she will still be up but usually goes back to sleep once in bed and this is only at night.
. I used to make sure I was home for her naps b/c she would only nap in her crib. If we missed it, we missed it and I paid for it through out the day. she also never slept in the stroller
dd2 is similar shes 6 months old. she wakes up even in the infant seat. But she doesn't seem to be as cranky if shes woken and will fall back to sleep if in the stroller long enough or in the car again if shes tired enough.

Re: convertible seat- falling asleep question

its hit or miss but lately we've been more successful in moving her. if she is really tired she'll stay asleep. if i am worried about her not staying asleep i sometimes will transfer her to the stroller vs. carrying her. DD is 2. I dont recall it being a problem when we first switched her out of the infant seat.

dd is 14m and wakes up from the transfer, it sucks, that's the best part about the snap and go!!

convertible seat- falling asleep question

Ill just have to schedule my day around her naps when I can. And other times Im hoping eventually she will get used to staying asleep. She has to be soo beyond exhausted to stay asleep. Which thankfully is not often but I just hope eventually she gets used to it more.

If my DD falls asleep in the car, she will not stay asleep for the transfer and will not go back to sleep. So I always plan my dad around her nap unless I plan on her skipping her nap (which is something I do more now that she is 2.5 than when she was younger).

Re: convertible seat- falling asleep question

nope never changed for me I would sit in car or sit outside and sun bath..as they got older i would actually drive around just to get them to nap at same time.. keep magazines or things in your car, i know it gets boring but better than dealing with cranky kids later in day....mine are 3 and still do it.....

Re: convertible seat- falling asleep question

My 10-month-old DD will never stay asleep on transfer. If it's naptime, I will usually just stay in the car and play on my phone until she wakes up. If it's bedtime, I take her in, change her, put her sleepsack on and put her in the crib and she usually falls back asleep pretty easily.

I've always just woken her up, but she doesn't typically get cranky if I wake her...

Every child is different with moving them. Yes, its hard but I would put in crib & let them cry. With winter coming it won't be fun sitting outside. You need to teach them now that they have to nap in crib. Another optin is to make sure you are home by nap time.

Re: convertible seat- falling asleep question

My ds learned to transfer but I was persistent about it. I also always scheduled myself to be home for naps. He always slept longer and woke up happier at home in the crib. And then I was able to clean and get things done during his nap. I would try not to et him fall asleep in the car so he would ap at home.
