21 weeks...contractions?

I had one contraction last week and one last night, both while sleeping. It was very tense and lasted for about eight seconds each time. They went away once I changed positions and took a deep breath.

Has anyone else had this around 21 weeks? Just wondering if it's normal. Google says BH contractions can start as early as 16 weeks...

Did it feel like ur stomach tightening? Thats braxton hicks, and those are normal to get. Just lay on ur left side and drink lots of water when it happens.

yes, it felt like a tight, tight muscle cramp in my uterus and then when I changed positions, it released.

Braxton Hicks are totally normal. Real contractions feel nothing like BH.

Really bad menstrual cramps that come and go at regular intervals.

BHs is literally just a tightening of your muscles.

Ditto. I have been having these kinds of contractions since last night and I am hoping they are going to get more consistent. I was unsure I would know the difference, but it's VERY different than BH.

Thank you all for the reassurance. I called my doc just to have them mark it in my file, and they told me I am too early to be feeling BH. I was like...what? She was like "If you're concerned, you can come in." I said, "I wasn't concerned before this conversation, but you're making me concerned." So the stupid nurse told me over the phone that it's abnormal, had me come in, did a sono...then told me everything was fine.

The doctor also told me it's too early for me to feel kicks...I was like, nope, I feel kicks. She said no, you feel flutters. I was like no but okay lol. So when I was getting a sono last night, the baby stuck up for mama and gave a big KICK! The sono tech asked me if I felt it. I said, "Of course. Now what would you call that?" She said, "A kick." I said SEEEE!!! She told me she would tell the doctor. Unbelievable.

Moral of the story: Trust your gut!!! I am switching practices. This practice has made me so unnecessarily nervous three times now.

I had back labor, so it started with a burning sensation in my lower back and then would radiate around to the front. It was definitely in a clear pattern with a start, a middle (peak) and end.

Oddly enough, I never had any BH contractions.
