How do you start the IVF process??

Can you share what your IVF protocol was in the beginning? Do they always start you on BCP's?

I am **HOPING**to begin IVF this cycle but I am already on cd3. Seeing the RE tomorrow for bloods and sono and will obv ask but looking for what you girls went through....
Do you think I can begin this cycle or does it usually take a few cycles to stim up?
Financial stuff is already settled so we are ready to go!!!

How do you start the IVF process??

I never took BCPs for any of the three cycles I did. When I got AF for this last cycle, I called CD 1 and started stimming CD 2.

I am going in tomorrow- since today is CD 1 after my failed IVF. RE wanted me to come in on CD 2 to check everything out. He will check to make sure everything looks good and I don't have any cysts. Last cycle I was on BCP for only 5 days to align to my REs IVF cycle, since he groups the cycles. I think you should be fine to start the IVF cycle tomorrow as long as everything looks good. What RE are you going to? If your RE does IVFs together as a group then you will prob go on BCP if not you might start stimming right away. It really depends what your protocol entails. Good luck. If you have any questions just ask.

Got it. I have heard good things about that RE. He was on my list but never got there. DO you have your meds already? If you aren't doing BC you would prob have to start tomorrow.

Re: How do you start the IVF process??

Last cycle I did BCPs for 26 days to align with the other women doing IVF and to "quiet" or "re-start" the ovaries.

I *believe* my RE is doing IVF end of October/Beginning of November so I assume I'll be on BCP for approximately the same amount of time.

My first ivf cycle I saw Palter. What I really liked about his practice is he went with your own cycle. I did not take bcp that cycle but did use lupron before stims.

Re: How do you start the IVF process??

Here is a link to everything from my first IVF. All the questions I asked at the consult, some links, some other info I found along the way, my protocol...etc.
My RE said they use the bcp so the body responds better to the injections and also to get rid of any cysts that may be left over. Not all RE use them. I'm going to start another journal tomorrow after I see RE with my new protocol. Best of luck!!!!!!!!!

Re: How do you start the IVF process??

Prior to starting meds I had to have a saline sonogram, mock IVF transfer, and my first cycle they had me on Lupron for 14 days(for suppression) before even starting stims(Lupron didn't suppress me so I ovulated the day I was suppose to trigger). It was like a cycle of that stuff before beginning stims

I never did BCP since I have a history of blood clots so my protocol went something like this:

CD3- went for blood work and sonogram; started stims that night
CD6 or 7- Monitoring Appointment (BW and Sono); continue stims (they may or may not adjust the amount of meds).

I would go every 2-3 days and eventually every day once my eggs reached a certain size. Once my lead eggs were like 20mm I would then trigger(HCG shot).

I think I stimmed for 8 or so days(don't recall ){had 3 fresh cycles}but everyone is different and responds differently.

About 36 hours after trigger you go for retrieval. DH never did his sample at the office so he would bring it with him. First IVF cycle was cancelled since I ovulated prior to trigger. Second I had 17 eggs retrieved of those 9 or 10 fertilized and would later transfer them over a year period(no BFPs). Third cycle i had 31 eggs and 27 fertilized, day 5 transfer was BFN but I did a FET 2 months later and my DD is now 3 weeks old.

How do you start the IVF process??

I asked Dr Stelilng this morning about the bcp. He explained it this way....our bodies are structured to mature only one egg at a time. your ovaries will poduce follicles from day 0-5, they mature at different rates and by day 5 one is picked to mature. with the bcp, the theory is that it suppresses this function and your body will syncronize all of the follicles to grow not just one dominant one.

oh, and the pre ivf protocol stuff is
water sono, endo bx, updated pap, trial transfer, blood work, dh had to have hepatitis panel and hiv test, gonorrhea and chlymadia test, physical, and i think thats it :)

Interesting info bcp. Now I did saline sono last time he said no reason to do. Didn't need and endo biopsy had bloodwork SO had his blood work done. No trial transfer here either.

Wow you went through so much. I give you a lot of credit. But it was all so worth it bc now you have your DD. Congrats! You are proof that we shouldn't give up.
