UPDATED QUESTION: I'm having an impossible time deciding on a fall getaway...Northfork or Vermont??
UPDATE: After a lot of looking around we realized that Newport is unfortunately out of our price range right now. We are now deciding between doing a Riverhead/Greenport/wineries trip OR Burlington Vermont. Can anyone recommend their favorite wineries on LI this time of year (we would be staying in Riverhead and traveling towards Greenport). We're looking at the Hotel Indigo in Riverhead - good, bad, indifferent? And places to eat, see?
DH and I are trying to book a minimoon for Columbus Day weekend. In my head I'm picturing something like a beautiful lodge with a room with a fireplace and jacuzzi, stunning views, a cute quaint town with great dining, shopping, and some nice bars. We'd like something with wineries nearby, maybe some apple picking, etc. I'm thinking Vermont or Lake Placid would be best for this, but I don't know where??
DH is thinking something more along the lines of a harbor town - like Montauk, Greenport, maybe even Cape Cod. Something with some fishing or boating. Still would like wineries nearby.
Either way we're looking for something romantic but not super pricey. For 3 days we'd like to stay around $1000 or so. Any suggestions and reccs on where to stay and what to do

I'm having an impossible time deciding on a fall getaway. Newport, Cape Cod, North Fork, or Vermont??
I haven't been, but I think Newport, RI has everything you are looking for. I am looking into this as well.

We have stayed at the Saybroon Inn and Spa. He rooms have fireplaces, I honestly don't remember f it was a regular bath tub or jacuzzi tub. But it's in a really cute town and you cn easily day trip from there to Mystic, the casinos or Newport.

Did you consider the finger lakes at all? It's much cheaper and the east end wineries! And that would be perfect fall foliage time also

We have stayed here in the past, and fits what you are looking for. Huge Jacuzzi tub in room, fireplace, quaint village it is connected to.
