The transportation center opens about 2 hours before the park does.

I wouldn't park at MK and go to the Contemporary for breakfast that early. I'd drive to the Contemporary, pay the $15 to valet park (I think it's $1 more to valet at a hotel then park at a theme park), eat breakfast and then take the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom. At the end of the day, just head back to the contemporary and pick up your car.

Valet parking at the hotel is $1 more than parking at the theme parks. I think theme park parking is up to $14 a day now.

I was looking online before and thought I read that you can only park at the hotel for a few hours if you are just dining there but you can't park there all day. Is it different when you valet instead?

You can park at the hotel for free if you have a confirmed dining reservation for 3 hours.

You can park there all day if you pay to valet. That's why the cost is basically the same cost as parking at the parks (with a $1 surcharge).

BTW you can walk to MK from contemporary, don't take the monorail as you will have to ride the entire loop to get to MK, there is a walkway clearly marked with a sign its about a 10 minute walk if that

The walkway is much faster than the monorail, but it's my experience that kids LOVE the monorail. Heck, I used to love it as a kid too.

We have been to Disney twice in the last two years - we have NEVER been at rope drop and have never waited more than 5-10 minutes for a ride or meet and greet ever - except Sophia the First which we only waited maybe 15-20 min tops. What I have found is that after 7 the park really clears out...after 9 and around the time of the fireworks and electrical parade etc. you can go on some of the most popular rides repeatedly with NO wait at all. We did all the new rides in Fantasy Land with no wait at all... All character meet and greets in MK (Ariel, the princesses, mickey etc.) and Epcot that my kids wanted to do with no wait at all (except Sophia the first). We would stay to park close every night and sleep in and get to the parks between 12-1 the next day. We did Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom and the above applies to all three. It's all in the timing. When we first arrived at the park in the early afternoon it was the busiest so we did things that had the shortest wait like the hall of presidents, country bear jamboree etc. We would have a late lunch or an early dinner and do all the popular rides in the evening and night...

Just got back from Disney today. I thought the crowds were really heavy relative to the past 2 times we went. I was expecting really low crowds from the feedback on here.

We went to magic kingdom at rope drop and the lines started forming at 10. I don't know if it is because of the expanded fantasyland but we only got to ride 6 (7 if you include meet and greet of ariel) before the lines were in the 45min -1 hour category (around 11am). We thought we could beat the crowds to eat lunch at the new be our guest restaurant but there was already a 70 minute wait just to get into the quick serve restaurant! We ended up watching shows and a parade for the remainder of the morning before heading back to our hotel and then animal kingdom. Animal kingdom had no waits for anything.

If you are staying at a Disney hotel, you can park at any of the resorts for free. I would self park at contemporary and walk to magic kingdom.

I would also recommend getting to chef mickey's at least 15 min prior to your reservation. they give you a buzzer after you check in. we made the error of arriving right at our reservation time (8:15) and we weren't seated until 8:40. It was a buffet so we were out at 9:15. all the characters came around at the same time right after we ate our 2nd round of food. I read some people stay for multiple rounds of characters but one round was plenty for us.

eta: I thought the food at chef mickey's was disappointing. the only item we enjoyed was the mickey waffles and you can get them anywhere.
