Delivering at Stony Brook

Hi!
My doctor delivers out of Stony Brook. I haven't gone for the tour or anything yet, but I have been wondering if they have specific rules when in labor there. Did you have to get an IV, were you allowed to be out of bed/walk the halls in labor, and were you allowed to eat or drink while you were in labor??
Thanks for any info you have regarding your experiences!

Re: Delivering at Stony Brook

i delivered with the midwives and it really will depend on what your situation is when you go into labor...

i didn't have an IV. well... they started one when i first there but i was disconnected after awhile. they kept the thingy in my hand and it was wrapped up.

i was allowed to walk around the halls. i didn't have to keep a hospital gown on. i had shorts and a sports bra on for almost the whole night.

i had occasional fetal monitoring. they wanted it on 20 minutes every two hours ish but i fought it because it was uncomfortable.

if you're low risk and there's no reason to go to the hospital early... stay home as long as possible. that's my best advice if you don't want to feel like you're in a hospital -- don't go to the hospital lol. i mean that genuinely. i hate being at the hospital and even with the midwives... allowed to do all this... you're still in a hospital you know?

stay home as long as you can. you have your own shower, bed, couch, food, toilet, etc. use them all as much as possible. i honestly believe labor progresses quicker and easier at home.

If/when you get an epidural, you must be bed bound. Up until the epidural you can walk around.
