Thoughts on this name....
DH and I are between 2 names for our LO. One of them is Julianna.
We would pronounce it "Ju-li-AN-na".
Do you think some people will say "Ju-li-AH-na"?
I just don't want this poor kid to go through her whole life correcting people on how to say her name!

I would never add an H to the pronunciation. I think you have no worries.

There are two people in my family with that name, one is Juli-ANNA, one is juli-AHNA
Juli-ANNA, spells it with ANNA at the end Juli-AHNA speills it with a ANA at the end
Honestly, people still get them wrong all the time.

See, in this situation I can see where the confusion will come in. No one else in my family has a remotely close name to Julianna, so in that way I think it will be ok. But I also know that some people will say it wrong.

I have the same issue with "Savannah". Some people pronounce the a in the middle very long, and some pronounce it very short. I prefer the long sound but everyone will say something different.
I deal with the same issue with my own name

I guess a lot of people go through problems with their names even if they are simple. Even I've had issues with my name, Lori, in that people call me Laura, Lauren, etc. It's not that hard people!
I'm just trying to minimize the possibility of giving my girl a name she will struggle with.

I wouldn't overcomplicate it, I don't think Julianna is the kind of name a million people will mispronounce at all It's really pretty and common enough that most people will get it right!

Ha, I'm trying not to, but I have little else to do but get ready for the baby and over-analyze everything!

I hear ya. I never even got to have the name debate because once we knew it was a boy, the name was already decided. It was NEVER EVER negotiable LOL

Re: Thoughts on this name....
Our DD is Juliana (pronounced they way you are too). The only person right now who pronounces it the other way ios my BIL - and I have no clue why. But it doesn't bother me. When she gets older and is in school she may have to correct people, but that is something I have never thought about.

Thoughts on this name....
My dd is Giuliana. People say it both ways. I don't care or prefer either way. By using 2 n's in anna, more people will say it as you want.

Re: Thoughts on this name....
My daughters name is VERY clear and people still mispronounce it as a totally different name. so id say they will say it wrong no matter what even when they are immediate family and are told the correct saying over and over again.
Example:
Haylee
should be said "HAY-LEE" like it is written rhymes with BAY/PAY/SAY
people say "HAIL-E" as if it rhymes with BAIL/PAIL/SAIL...
I HATE IT!!!!

I know 2 little girls with this name, one of which is my niece. One says Julie-anna and my niece is called Julie-ahna, although I do not say it like that. Both are spelled the same.

Re: Thoughts on this name....
As a teacher, give the child an easy name. The hard names are so frustrating to the kids when they constantly have to correct people and the other kids get annoyed hearing them correct everyone!
