would this be a good gift?

my co-worker's (also a friend of mine) wife had a baby not too long ago. I was thinking of getting the baby an outfit by myself but then other people wanted to chip in so now 3 of us will be getting a joint gift. We are thinking getting him a gift card instead. Is this a good gift or too impersonal? Also do you think BBB or Babies R Us card is better, or does it not matter? what do you think?

What I would do is get a couple of outfits and maybe a giftcard to go along with it. I think just a giftcard is impersonal.

I personally appreciate gift cards because then I can get what I need and what I want. Especially right after dd was born, I had to try different wipes constantly. Different diapers. Different bottles and pacis. I lived in BRU (closest to home) and having those gift cards were a HUGE $ saver for me.

I would go with which ever store is closer to that persons home. if both are close then maybe go with the store they were registered at. again if both then it doesn't matter. get whateva is easier for you to get to then LOL

Maybe put the gift card in with a cute teddy bear or small lovey.

The only thing I would say IF you get a few outfits then give a gift receipt. I got SO many gifts for my dd without gift receipts. And it would make me so mad when I didn't like it or it didn't fit.

Gift cards are worth gold to me right now with a newborn. There are so many things I didn't know I would need. Every baby is different so things you don't need for one LO, you might need for another.

i definitely think a gift card is the way to go with a newborn
as pp mentioned, you never know what they may or may not need. we got so much clothing when DD was born we returned some and still ended up with outfits she never wore (that we couldnt return bc we didnt know where they were from).

your other option would be to see if they are registered - and if so get something off the registry

Re: would this be a good gift?

Do they have a registry?

A co-worker just had a baby and we jointly got her the travel system and swing off her registry. I was expecting the staff to chip in for the gift but my boss just picked up the tab. The card was from all of us though so not sure if the recipient knows who actually paid for it.

I have always worked with all men and received generous gift cards when I gave birth to both my sons. I also got gift baskets and some other misc items. Although gift cards are the most helpful, I think they are somewhat impersonal.

DH works with many women and DH got a lot of little thoughtful gifts. I personally appreciated the handmade gifts we received from DH's staff. We never receive anything handmade ever. I thought it was very thoughtful.

I love getting gift cards. Outfits are cute, but do you k ow what she has and what she will need? GCs are great bc she can save them to buy an outfit for next season, or get the little things she may need. Or maybe get onesies in a few sizes, baby socks, wash cloths, bibs...stuff that is practical that you always seem to need more of.

Just had a baby myself & I can tell you that a gift card is awesome idea. I have returned soo many clothes that my baby will never wear..everyone got me outfits (appreciated it of course) but either they were wrong size or I got doubles or out of season. Best bet is GC.

I agree. Gift card is awesome!
You can add a stroller toy or baby book if you want something personal (honestly, personal stuff is best from people you are close to... Otherwise it doesn't matter).
