2 Year old won't fall asleep/stay in her bed.

My DD is 2.5 and has never been a wonderful sleeper. We converted her to a toddler bed at 2 because she was climbing out of her crib. The first few nights we converted her, she was excited to go to bed in her big girl bed but ever since she won't FALL asleep in her bed. She lays down in my bed to fall asleep and then before I go in, I carry her and put her in her bed. I don't have to be with her in my bed, she just has to fall asleep in my bed. And, most of the time she comes into our room 2-3 times a night and crawls in our bed. When she comes into our bed, 9 times out of ten, I let her fall asleep and then I put her in her bed...but honestly sometimes I am just too tired and I let her stick out the night where she is.

I am expecting DC2 and I am beginning to get so stressed about DDs poor sleep habits.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I thought of maybe letting her pick out fun bedding to "re-do" her toddler bed...not sure that will help. I'm trying to hold off on the BIG bed until after the holidays.

Any advice would be appreciated! I am exhausted and desperate!! Thanks!!

Lately what I've been doing with DD who is 2.5, is reminding her constantly that 'big girls stay in bed all night' and if you stay in your bed I will get you something special over the weekend. It's kinda been helping. I'd say 2 nights a week she gets up during the night, as opposed to 5-6x. Last week she got a little jewelry box, and this week she picked out new books, all while reinforcing that she got these new toys because she stayed in her bed. It's so hard, I feel your frustration.

Re: 2 Year old won't fall asleep/stay in her bed.

We went through the same thing. We corrected it with a behavior chart. DS got a sticker for every night he spent n his room. Five stickers in a row earned him a special breakfast at Dunkin Donuts. After 5 breakfast, he got a small toy. Mind you this was over quite a few weeks, by the end it had become more of a habit and we no longer needed to reward. That said, DH will be 7 next month and there are still a couple nights here and there when he will sneak in. But it's definitely not a daily occurrence.Chat Icon
