Btdt moms- labor length?

Question... I hear people say they were in labor for x hours. If your water didn't break, how do you calculate when labor started?

I've been up since 3:30 with contractions, went to the hospital at 9, was 3 centimeters dilated w/contractions 5 min apart. We decided to come home for as long as possible. Still having contractions obv. So have I really been in labor for 15hrs already? Lol

Re: Btdt moms- labor length?

I counted from the moment I had regular contractions!!! Long and not awful, but still considered the first stage of labor.

I was in labor from first contraction until DD's first breath 33 hours. I was at home with my contractions the first 19 hours. I only had "hard" labor for 5.5 hours.

So, to answer your question, I think you've already been in labor 15 hours!! Good luck!!!

Re: Btdt moms- labor length?

My water broke at 8pm, got to hospital and they gave me cervedil. Contractions started at about 10:30 and I had my daughter the next morning at almost 12. So I calculate from contractions to delivery, 13 hours.

I never actually felt contractions until they broke my water at the hospital - I was sent in bc I showed regular contractions - less than 3 min apart- on the monitor and was 6cm dilated. DD was born about 3.5 hours after they broke my water.

I was induced with cervidil but didn't start contracting till they started pitocin and broke my water. So I counted from that point on and I was in active labor for 8 hours. 1.5 hours of that was pushing.

I started contractions at 3am but they came and went throughout the day. At 9pm they became regular so that's when I consider my labor starting. I got to the hospital at midnight, my water broke at 2am and dd was born at 5:20am. I consider my labor 8 hours long

I think I would consider your labor starting at 330am if the contractions have bee regular since then
Good luck!!!!

Re: Btdt moms- labor length?

If they have been consistent the entire time id say ya ur in labor for 15 hours! Both my labors were sped up with pitocin, first time was bc of meconium, second time i was fully induced bc of low fluid, so my labors were fast, 8 hrs for DS, and less than 4 hrs with DD.

Hope baby comes soon!!!

I was 3cm for over 2 weeks and having contractions a lot, so I didn't count it haha. I counted it from when I was in "active" labor at 4cm.

Each time, when I started timing fairly regular contractions, with a distinguishable pattern, I considered myself in labor. My water never broke with any of them.

I was very lucky and each of my labors were only 5-6 hours.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Btdt moms- labor length?

Woke up at 3am with regular timeable contractions and bloody show that continued throughout the day...Went to the hospital at 8pm and cervix @ 5cm had DS at 8:30am the following day (so around 30 hours or so total) after 2.5 hours of pushing (they broke my water at 9+cm dilated.

I had some stomach pains around 9pm but I thought it was from eating too much! I started paying attention to the times at midnight and they were exactly 7 minutes apart. I consider midnight as the start. I had DD at 9:21pm so that was exactly 21 hours and 21 minutes.

Re: Btdt moms- labor length?

DS #1 - when I finally realized I was in labor to delivery was about 23 hours.

DS #2 - I was induced - 2 rounds of cervadil and pitocin that was about 39 hours but there was a period of about 8 hours between when the 2nd round of cervadil came out and pitocin started.

Re: Btdt moms- labor length?

My contractions started at home around 8pm. They were tolerable at that point.

Around midnight they started picking up and by 1:00 am I was stopping dead in my tracks to get through them (the hospital had DH walk me around the halls to bring on the labor since I wasn't dialted enough).

I had an epi by 3 am and my water broke at 630 am. I had DS at 8:54 am 3 years ago today Chat Icon Chat Icon

Good luck

I went to sleep and was not in labor. Maybe a little uncomfortable and a few contractions but nothing to talk about, especially since I had been having them for weeks.

I woke a little after 1 am with contractions. I wasn't sure initially if it was labor but after a couple hours I knew it was real. I had my DD at 330pm. I say I was in labor for about 14 hours.

Cramping, bleeding from early on a Saturday morning.

First 'contraction' (that didn't really 'hurt' but were coming and going with some sort of rhythm) on Sunday night at 5ish

Woke up Monday morning at 4 a.m. with strong back pain. This is what I consider the start -- although I guess I should count from whatever happened on Sunday technically.

Contractions and back labor were strong enough that I was having trouble walking and a few dropped me to my knees by noon.

Poe was born tuesday morning just before 9 a.m.

So 29 hours of labor that I was actually able to feel discomfort on some level. If we add in the start of the contractions on Sunday. 40.

SHEESH.

I know you already gave birth so my response is irrelevant Chat Icon but...

I never contracted even once. I was induced because I was 41w1d, I was barely dilated and DS wasn't descending.

Because they anticipiated I would need a C-section, they started the epidural right away (which is why I never felt a contraction). They tried cervadil and later pitocin. They broke my water. After almost 24 hours of this I stalled out at 6cm and DS heartrate dropped every time I had a contraction because the cord was being pressed. They asked if I wanted to keep waiting but I told them to go ahead with the C-section.

So I technically say I was "in labor" about 24 hours considering the time I entered into the hospital til the time DS was here.
