16 mos... what should she "know"?
My dd is 16 mos and we don't have many kids her age to compare to. She is working on skills right now (getting better with utensils, brushing her own teeth, saying please and thank you, pointing out doggies and "babies" which essentially means anyone under the age of 40 lol) but she doesn't know letters, numbers, colors, etc. If I say "1, 2, 3" she may try to copy me but she doesn't understand what it means. Are these things we should be stressing now or can it wait?

DD is the same about "babies". She has definitely offended more than one kid! DD is 16 months and knows most of her number and letters but it's really based on her own interest. I definitely don't think it's expected at all. We have puzzles for both and she mostly learned from those. She knows her animals and a few shapes but doesn't get colors yet at all. We're working on utensils, she loves to brush her teeth and comb her hair, color. She can do shape sorters, and very simple puzzles fairly well however her gross motor is very delayed and she gets PT for that.

Re: 16 mos... what should she "know"?
haha! DD2 will be 16 months on the 9th and says "MAMAMAMA" and that's about it. She follows detailed directions ("please get mommy a teacup and a spoon" and she will run to her play kitchen and do it). She has zero real words but babbles up a storm in her own little dialect. We show her picture books, read to her constantly, teach her manners...but she's not too verbal yet. She can brush her teeth and eat with a spoon. I am not at all concerned (well maybe a little) but I do compare her to DD1 who was speaking in complete sentences before she was 2. As for letters/numbers..I think that's closer to 2 as well. She's doing great!

I would stop worrying and just let her grow at her own pace... My dd is close in age to yours and I wouldn't expect her to know any of that just yet! Didnt even think to question it actually... All that matters at this age is her comprehension with you... Like does she understand what you are saying to her... Simple commands. If so, she's right on point! Don't stress out. You will always find another child that did things at an earlier age...
