BTDT--can you get epidural without pitocin?
I had it with my first. I remembered them saying at the L&D class that they give pitocin with epidural because sometimes epi slows things down. In my case, I could've used the slow down. My labor progressed so quickly that I was ready to push shortly after getting epi and doctor made me wait because it the epi was too fresh. But I digress.
This time I'll gladly take the epidural but I'd rather not have the pitocin. Do you know if you can get one without the other?

Good to know. Thanks! I'm going to make this request this time around. I didn't particularly like that they just hooked it up without even saying anything. Labor was so much of a whirlwind that I didn't think to ask.

Yes. My water broke so I was induced with Cervadil. That started the contractions for me, so I didn't need pitocin.... good luck!

I wasn't induced with pitocin or anything else. I got my epidural at 4 cm.

I had an epi and had no pitocin.
The epi did not slow my contractions down at all- just made it so I could not feel them! Heaven!!!

I got the epi and no pitocin with DD2. Doctor told me they usually give pitocin after the epi since it usually slows down labor, but it didn't slow mine down so they didn't give it.

This. I did show up to the hospital already dilated to 6cm though.

I was induced with cervadil too and it progressed really fast--within a couple of hours instead of the usual 12, but they still hooked me up to a bag of pitocin with the epi.
But glad to hear a lot of you had epi without it.

Except for the water breaking same here... infact i went from 1cm to 10cm in the 2.5 hrs i was blissfully painless with the epi lol

If you don't want it- tell them you don't want it! I can't have it this time but had I known more about it with DD I would not have gotten it.

I think the problem is that sometimes if you get the epi too early labor can stall. It's not always the case, but it can be. But if you're in active labor you shouldn't need anything extra, and you certainly don't have to take anything you don't want.
