Recommendations on how to transition my son in preschool

My twins are starting preschool in about 2 weeks. My son has severe separation anxiety and I'm nervous he won't do well in the program.

Any ideas or recommendations on an easy transition?

Re: Recommendations on how to transition my son in preschool

Our Gymboree had a separation class where they took the kids for 15 minutes into a room without parents. DS did great: didn't cry, was aware I was on the other side of the door.

He started preschool yesterday and it was a lot like those classes (but for 3 hours). I told him to go and play... And he never looked back.

The class was done for months. Since you have 2 weeks, I would see if you have something you can set up like that (library, momma group).

Re: Recommendations on how to transition my son in preschool

The preschool my dd is going to said to talk to them about school, but don't over do it and talk too much about school because it might make them nervous before they go. Also, they said that the kids can bring a blanket or toy from home that comforts them. You can see if your preschool will do the same, if you think it might help.

I wish I had more advice. I hope it all goes well!

Does the preschool have an orientation where he will see the classroom and meet the teacher? If they do I would just talk how exciting it will be, but as previous poster I wouldn't talk to much because I think that can make them more apprehensive and overthink it.

Thank you all. We met the teachers, which they seemed to like them both. The first week I go with them and sit in the room next door. I think we will send him him with one of his stuffed animals.
