Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola
Need honest/non-bias experiences with VBAC at this hospital. The latest data I found from 2011 said they only did 4 VBAC's but on their website they advertise as being VBAC friendly.
Trying to decide if I should go with my current practice or going with a midwife to deliver out of NUMC.
Thanks!

Re: Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola
I just had a successful VBAC there last Monday. I had a very positive experience in labor/delivery. I had the potential for complications during the delivery (had severe pre-eclampsia last pregnancy and thus a c-section) and while they definitely kept a close watch on my blood pressure (which was 190/100 at one point) no one mentioned a c-section at any point (my BP came down significantly but at one point they were going to order magnesium).
I would think though that it has more to do with your OB than the hospital itself. My labor progressed quickly and my OB got to the hospital quickly bc of this and she seemed to be in charge of what was going on.
Another OB from my practice also mentioned at one of my apptmts a few days prior to my delivery that someone was at Winthrop that very day trying for a VBAC. Don't know the outcome of that one.
GL!

Re: Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola
I am hoping for a VBAC. My OB said she would prefer for me to be at Winthrop for it. The midwife said that they were one of the first hospitals to start doing them. Also, my DD'd ped said even if I wasn't trying for a vbac, she would want me at Winthrop.
I delivered DD via c-section at south Nassau. The private rooms were great but there was a few things I was not happy with. DD had a fever so was taken away to NICU. I was supposed to BF but they gave her a bottle with formula with out asking us. Unfortunately she did not tolerate it and wasn't able to eat anything for the days she was there, just pedialyte out of a bottle. The first time I nursed her was 2 hours before we left hospital, and needless to say it didn't go very well..... It set us back a lot but luckily it was fine in the end.
Supposedly now they are not allowed to do that.
