IVF Update- Day 8 of stimming and ?s ***CD 11 update and ?s
So tonight will be day 8 of stimming. I am on 150 of Menopur and 300 of Gonal F. I started out with 150 of Gonal F, then to 225, and then to 300. I went in on Thursday and I had two measurable follicles on each side measuring 10. Today is day 8 of stimming and two days of being on the higher dose of 300 and only 3 measurable follicles. I'm adding in Garnilex now also. I'm going back on Tuesday so I'm hoping the 3 more nights of stimming helps. Usually for IUIs on Gonal F I have way more action by now. Retrieval is tentatively scheduled for Friday. Lining is 7. something.
Anyone been in the position of not having a lot of follicles at this point and then more turning up? What do you think? Should I not expect a lot of follicles at this point?
RE seemed pretty surprised that I only had 3 and said something about, well its quality over quantity. Also he mentioned something about for my age he thought there would be more. UHHH
So basically now I'm freaking out. Lots of tears on the way home.
Ohhh and the fun part was going to a baby shower today about an hour after I left the appointment....right.

So I had my CD 11 BW/Sono. Lining is
8. something. 2 more follies showed up so now we have 5 in total. I guess 5 is better than 3 but still not what I was hoping for. I'll take it though. The lead follicle is 19. I really can't remember the other 4 but if I had to try I would say 15, 13, 13, 12. I told RE I was disappointed about the amount of follicles and he said Remember its quality over quantity. He said since I'm young (32) that he thinks they will be good quality. Back tomorrow for BW/Sono. Staying on 300 Gonal F and 150 Menopur. I also asked him about changing meds and protocol if this IVF doesn't work. He said we would make changes IF this doesn't work but he is optomistic it will. Retrieval most likely Friday.
How does it work with trigger for IVF? How long after trigger is retrieval? Do you still do meds the day of trigger or do you stop the night before? RE also ordered me Medrol and Doxycycline.....any ideas when that starts? When does progesterne start? I have Crinone.
Side note: I gave myself Garnirelix today. This was my first shot I ever gave myself. DH usually gives me all shots but I felt bad waking him up at 5:30 am. Well I almost fainted....ringing in my ears and I looked like a ghost. Chugged some icetea and felt a little better but have been feeling off all day. At least I gave myself the shot! Oh and 2.5 hrs of sleep is no fun on your first day back to work. Back tomorrow at 6:15 am...Fingers crossed for growing follicles!!!!

I heard the same thing from my doc. For my age they thought I would have more follicles. I did 2 fresh IVF cycles back to back. I was in your position last month and ended up with 3 follicles. This second time, I did the follisum and menapur with clomid and ended up with 9 follicles. The good news that you do only need one good one. I had my transfer a week ago and now waiting. I'm wishing you lots of luck.

Try to relax...maybe they'll extend retrieval date?

I could have written your post. Tonight is day 8 for me as well. I, too, have 3 big follies and a few little ones. I started on 375 Menopur and 375 Bravelle. Now, I'm on 300 each of Menopur and Bravelle.
My first cycle, last year was cancelled when I was responding similarly. The good news is that my second cycle, with a similar start, resulted in DD. The IVF nurses told me to expect to stim 12-14 days this cycle.
It can really go either way. Keeping fingers crossed for both of us.

I too, dont respond as well as my doc would expect for age. My 1st IVF went like this and we ended up with 5 mature eggs.
For my 2nd IVF, acupuncture and doing all the injections IM made a difference.
Hang in there, you only need one!!!

Thanks ladies. I'm really trying to stay calm and not freak out. RE said there were some smaller follicles on the right and left so I'm hoping those catch up and we can get some more. There should be about 4 more days of stimming. Fingers crossed that they catch up and a lot fertilize. I still don't understand how I am on so many more meds than when I did my IUIS with only Gonal and have less follicles. Stupid IF. Hoping for good news on Tuesday!

So we are cycle buddies. What is your RE saying with having 3 follicles now? Does he/she think more will turn up?
Why did they cancel your first cycle? How long did you stim for with your second cycle when you got DD? How many were retrieved? How many transferred? Any frosties?
When do you go back? When do they think your retrieval will be? Thanks for the info. Good luck and keep me updated.

At this point I'll take 5....hoping for more though. Whats the difference with doing the shots IM? How many were retrieved during your 2nd IVF? Best of luck to you!

I have 7 small ones in addition to the 3 lead follies. The hope is that they'll somehow catch up. There is no way to know at this point.
I don't remember how long I stimmed with DD. I think it was 11 or 12 days. I had 11 follies then. 6R, 5M, 2 fert w/ ICSI. We transferred both. DD implanted. Obviously, no popsicle embryos from that cycle.
1st cycle was cancelled b/c I had 2 lead follies and the others were tiny (I think the largest of the little ones when I was cancelled at 14 days was 11mm).
I'm there for monitoring every day. No one is even talking about a retrieval date at this point. They're expecting I'll stim 12-14 days, unless they cancel before then.
I didn't do accupuncture during my cancelled cycle. I did do it during the 2nd one. I'm not doing it this time and am wondering if that is why I'm in the same boat I was in during cycle #1. If we get cancelled, I'll definitely do accupuncture next time.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully those 7 catch up and you have a good amount. My RE didn't give an amount of small ones but said there were smaller ones on both sides. I guess it makes sense that they canceled you with 2 lead follicles bc they both may not fertilize. We weren't planning on doing ICSI (we are unexplained) but now we may have to if we don't get too many mature eggs. WHat size do they like to see the follicles for IVF retrieval? If this doesn't work I will be doing accupuncture as well. Congrats on your DD and hopefully this cycle is it for you! Keep me updated since we are on the same exact day of stimming. I don't go back until Tuesday though since they are closed on Monday for the holiday.

Thanks! I'm super worried about the low number of follies. I know all 5 won't fertilize so thats the scary part. I know you have been here and how hard it is. Hope you are doing well and you have a new plan!
