Cruises and excursions with 1-year old
I am Interested in booking a cruise with my parents when my ds is one. I was getting excited, but am now concerned that we couldn't do shore excursions with my ds because of having to ride in cars or vans without a carseat or seatbelt. It is an eastern Caribbean cruise on allure. I would not feel comfortable leaving him in the nursery while I am off the ship. I am not sure what to do...

I think you can hold the child on your lap. I don't think you can leave a 1 year old in the regular daycare section. Usually they need to be potty trained and 3 or 4 years old.

Re: Cruises and excursions with 1-year old
As a PP said, I don't think leaving him in the nursery is an option at all. I know NCL they have to be at least 3 and I think that's the rule most cruise lines follow.
Also, many excursions have a minimum age, so I would definitely take some time and see what, if any, excursions are even feasible with a 1yr old. We just got off a NCL on Saturday and I was surprised that even basic tour excursions had a minimum age requirement.

Re: Cruises and excursions with 1-year old
You can do them, but you will have to hold ds on your lap, which can be scary depending on where you are going and the van/bus you will be transported in. I know because we did this last year. Plus, if the excursion involves walking you may have to hold ds as there may not be any way to bring along a stroller, and if your walking on rougher terrain you wouldn't really be able to use a stroller anyway.
Also, I'm pretty sure that you cannot leave children in the ship's daycare or nursery and leave the ship.
Having said all that, you can still find things to do that are kid friendly and have a great time.

Re: Cruises and excursions with 1-year old
we did hte disney cruise. We didnt do any special shore excursions as we only did a 4 night cruise. But Disney has a nursery for kids under 3 and I know people used it to leave the ship while we were docked and not take the kids. It was not included, fee was $6 per hour and you need to reserve your spot as its there is limited space.
Now I wouldnt feel comfortable doing that but it was an option.
