Flu Shot
Anyone not get one while pregnant? I know it's advised to get one and I would, however I'm a little nervous. The last 2 years I have gotten the flu shot and both times I had a reaction. I know they "say" that's not possible, but both times I ran a low fever for 24-48 hours, body ache, chills, etc. anyone else experience this?

That "reaction" us a lot less severe than if you actually got the flu. Just my opinion but I would never nit get it, especially when pregnant

Re: Flu Shot
Last year when I got the flu shot I had a low grade fever along with aches and pains. Although that is far less worse then getting the flu! I plan on getting the shot when it becomes available.

Personally not a fan even when I am not pregnant. I will likely not get it.

Re: Flu Shot
The reason I got it last time around was b/c it protects your baby from the flu for about 6 months after birth. This was important to me.
I hope to get it this time, but I'm due in Oct so I'm not sure if I'll be able to.

Re: Flu Shot
It's funny. I'm totally against the flu shot but will get one now that I'm pregnant. For a newborn to get the flu is much more dangerous than anyone else and I don't want to take the chance especially since my ds (who doesn't get the shot) got the flu twice this year.

Re: Flu Shot
I gotten the flu shot three times in my life.. the couple of months before I started to TTC, a year later, 2 weeks before DD's due date, and last year.
I did because, DD was born during peak flu season, and I wanted to give her that added immunity, which given that she was in the NICU worked out in our favor.

Re: Flu Shot
It's actually very dangerous for the baby if you get the flu. Any side effects you get from the flu shot are minimal compared to actually getting the flu. And you can't really compare your reactions in previous years since each year the strain (and therefore the vaccine) is different.
I got the flu shot and the whopping cough vaccines when I was pg with no side effects.

the same reason why i got my fist flu shot ever. it protected my DD from the flu also and she was born in January. Also i am pretty sure babies cant get the shot till they are six months.
Also phoenix913 i am pretty sure they start to make the flu sot available in september so you should hopefully be able to get it.

Flu Shot
I plan to get the flu shot because it protects the baby immediately after birth- I have experienced feeling sick after having the shot but not every time. Lat winter I was perfectly fine after getting the shot.

Re: Flu Shot
I didn't get the flu shot with DD, I don't get the flu shot while I'm not pregnant and I won't be getting it during this pregnancy.
Some places already have the flu shot near me.

Re: Flu Shot
I've gotten the flu shot every year for the past 10 years, including when I was pregnant w/ DD. I have never gotten the flu. When I was pregnant w/ DD, and for this pregnancy too, I will ask for a preservative free flu vaccination. My Drs office and pharmacy both carried them. You're not supposed to get the shot if you're feeling at all under the weather... You should only get it when healthy, which is why it's best to get it early, before cold & flub season starts. I'll probably get mine in early October.

Re: Flu Shot
I'm getting it tuesday at my next OB appointment, the preservative free vaccine, I'm an RN in a PICU, and i always get it but I'm going to be out until Jan so i don't want to not get it, and it takes time for your body to build up antibodies to the vaccine, and i have never gotten the flu. thank god.
