Experiences with croup?

DS is 16 months old. I took him to the Dr this morning and she confirmed my suspicion that he has croup. It just started yesterday with only a low grade fever. How long should I expect this to last? Is it ok to let him sleep alone in his room? Just hearing him cough during nap time today was a little upsetting. Thanks!

I let ds sleep alone. I would be able to hear him on the monitor.

Ds gets it a few times a year.

Re: Experiences with croup?

If he has an attack overnight you should bring him into the bathroom and run the shower as hot as it can go. Sit in the steam with him. It will help his breathing.

Yes this helps a lot.
And if its cold outside - put a blanket around baby and sit out for a few minutes. The cold air helps a lot too. I had never even heard of croup before my son got it. He woke up in the middle of the night with that coughing/wheezing sound...so scary. Took him to the ER and he was given steroids. That night was the worst of it to be honest. Didnt last long at all. Hope your little one feels bettter soonChat Icon
