DS2 is 3 days old. BF him has been a struggle bc he falls asleep before getting enough (posted earlier about this).
I've decided to supplement w/formula but am not exactly sure how. Do you supplement after every BF session? Just certain times of the day or after a particularly "bad" Bfeeding session? So confused as to what to do but am seeing that DS' eyes look yellow and don't like it.
Also, if you chose to pump and then feed them that as a way to supplement, when do you pump? - after they eat or another random time.
I formula-fed DS1 bc of my medical complications and honestly feel so clueless.

I didn't end up supplementing, but when my ped suggested it at a week old he said to give 1 ounce after each feeding. If you want to try to give pumped milk I would try to do it after your first morning feeding. Mornings is when you typically have the most milk.

in the beginning DS lost about 10% of his weight and barely gaining for weeks after. Our ped recommended supplementing; we alternated feedings: breastmilk then formula. It worked great and allowed me to pump to build my supply.

i thought i had issues. I supplemented from day 1. ds wouldnt latch well, adn when he did he would fall asleep before he was done. i would "fight" him and then give in and give a bottle. typically we supplemented before bed. All day he would get breast milk/breastfed, and then i would pump and dh would feed him with formula. not sure if that is what should be done, but it seemed to work for us..

If the whites of your baby's eyes look yellow it could be a sign of jaundice. This can happen to BF & FF babies it does not matter, I would contact your pediatrician. My DD also falls asleep when she latches so I pump'n feed. I pump 2x a day for about 45 min & get 25-28oz a day.
