Once Upon A Child-Sayville

I went there on Saturday just to check it out and see if I could get some clothes for both kids. I was completely unimpressed with the prices. I looked at clothes for under a year. I found alot of the Carter's 3 piece outfits NWT for $9.50 but I just bought several of the same things from Kohl's for less than $8. As for the older kids stuff I got a pair of jeans ($5.50) and cords ($3.50). I ended up getting jeans from Carters and Kohls for $7.50.

They had a ton of winter coats that were name brand for $35/$40. They had bundle mes the regular kind and the "shower cap" type for $18. They had a bassinet that looked brand new for $60 but I actually have the same one and bought it in Kmart for $75 just a few months ago.

They had one of those outdoor plastic step2 houses for $250. A radio flyer wagon for i think $150 (it was def over $100).

So much for second hand clothing stores being a deal.

It was very neat and organized, though!

Oh, and they had a bunch of halloween costumes for under $10 if anyone is looking!

I'll never shop there again after seeing an outfit that still had the original tags on it- the original sale price (from Macy's) was lower than the Once Upon a Child price.

You can do much better at sales in the store.

And when you try to sell them stuff- even brand new with tags- they give you peanuts.
Yet they mark it up higher than you probably paid for it in the store.
I hate that place!

I think it's hit or miss. I find leotards, pettiskirts, and tons of shoes for GREAT prices there. Also a lot of Gymboree NWT stuff much cheaper than Gymboree. The jeans, dresses, etc. are just not really that great of a deal. I had to laugh the other day when I saw HALF of a playhouse, not even kidding, it was missing 2 walls, and it was marked for like $250!

P.S. Kidzilla Couture in Centereach is a consignment store for kids. They give you much more than OUAC does.

Hate this place too. I went in with 17 brand new with tag girls clothing. Most was carters, but I also had gap, childrens place and gymboree. I also had a brand new unopened leapfrog. They offered me 33 bucks. I really was shocked. Less than $2 and item. The best part was the girl at the register said "We were able to accept all your items". Everything was brand new of course you will accept my items. I took them home and sold them on buy/swap/sell and made over $100. Never again.

While I was waiting for them to price my items, I found the exact gymboree dress I was trying to sell in used condition and they were selling it for $9.50. They weren't evening going to give me $2 for mine NWT. The markup is crazy!

It is definately hit or miss. I looked at a new in box Lemonade Stand there. The price sticker from Kohl's said 39.99. They were selling it for $60!!

When I asked them about it, they said, "well, we can't control markdowns or sales in stores, we go by the regular prices." I told them that the 39.99 was not a SALE price, it is the original price sticker. So they called somebody, and he agreed to sell it to me for $35!!! I said no thanks!

I did ok when I sold stuff to them. But a lot of my stuff, they said they wouldn't take. I argued with them and told them that my stuff was in much better condition than half the stuff on their racks, with pilling and fading. They said they are trying to not make the same mistakes of buying stuff that looks like that. Meanwhile, most of my stuff had been worn maybe once or twice!

I have done really well there. But I have seen pricey outfits that I just stay away from. Last year I got DS a Childrens Place 3 in 1 winter jacket for $8.50.

We sold a lot of unworn, new with tags, clothing to them. It was all stuff that was gifted to my son that never fit him or was the wrong size/season. We did well, since we were planning on donating it.

I think anything under 9 mos has to have tags on it for them to buy it though.

However, I didn't see many deals on things to buy. Like other posters have said, I can get better deals at Carters and Kohls when I shop with coupons and sales.

It's not close to my house, so I wont be going back anytime soon. Plus, I'm not a shopper. I HATE digging through racks to find a deal for $2. I don't have the time or the patience to shop like that.
