1st day of school and i got the dreaded call from the front office ..
They had this form for me to fill out at her meet the teacher night.. HOW will she picked up – it asked. I said by car. Duh. Because no she’s not walking home and no she’s not taking a bus. Seemed obvious to me.
Well apparently that’s not what they REALLY meant. I should have chosen ‘other’?
She is enrolled in an aftercare program. I asked the teacher this morning how she would get there and the teacher said they walk them over. Ok. Fine.
Then the call came through from my hubby to my office at 3:19
Him: I got a call from the front office Me: Oh No! Is she ok? Him: She’s been up front waiting for us to pick her up Me: WHAT! (school ends at 2:45) Him: You said we were going to pick her up? Me: No I didn’t and you saw me ask the teacher Him: She says she didn’t know Me: But she’s enrolled!!! Him: Well she’s going now
So I call up. It was a confusing form, they are very sorry. She was a real pleasure in the front office, no trouble at all, very easy going. Well hell!
I’m taking the higher road. I’m glad she was safe, taken care of and with teachers. I have now completed a letter to the teacher (per their advice) to notify her that AJ is in after school care.
No tears this morning but I promised her “I won’t just leave you here of course I’m coming back!”
Crap!
Hubby is Totally over the deep end furious. Says he was in the middle of 3 things when the call came through and it just floored him. Not happy at all. Says I shouldn’t have to write a letter. *sigh* of course I did write the letter. But now I’ll have to deal with him being mad and possibly blaming me (which he already implied). Ugh!

Im sorry this happened but the most important thing is shes ok and shes safe. Its an honest mistake your human. Im sorry so what if your husband was in the middle of something its his daughter. Tell him be glad it wasnt something serious. Theres no reason for him to be angry with you your a human being and thats how you interpreted the form. Whats more important is tge discussion you both have with your dd that she wasnt forgottnen that there was just an error made.

Sorry that this happened, and I agree, the school form sounded confusing! And you did check with the teacher about the after care, maybe they should have called you sooner to clarify, instead of waiting 1/2 hour. But it was the first day for everyone and so maybe things were a little hectic.
Either way, if your DD made it through today (and the wait) then she will make it through the rest of the year! Just reassure her that everything will go smoothly tomorrow, and that it was just the 1st day where everyone has to work out the kinks!
Hope she had an awesome first day otherwise!!!

Things like this happen all the time in the beginning of school. If you wrote on the form that she was going to be picked up by car, the teacher did the right thing. Sorry, jmho as a teacher. There is no way you can remember everything a parent tells you verbally. That's why I always tell parents to email, write a note or call the main office.

So we got her. he's calmed down.
She filled us in on how she was lonely and sad and crying because I didn't come. She kept looking for a yellow car (mine). OUCH!
