If you have a history of ectopic pregnancy
Did your OB-GYN have you come in earlier than the standard 8-10 weeks for your first appointment?
Jusy got my BFP last night. I've had 2 ectopic pregnancies in the past. Thankfully my last pregnancy was healthy. But I am still so nervous. This is my first BFP on my own. I needed an RE to get pregnant in the past.

Re: If you have a history of ectopic pregnancy
I had one ectopic (this was after having 2 babies prior to the ectopic). When I got a BFP a month after the ectopic, they basically drew my blood three times to make sure HGC levels were rising normally and had me watch for symptoms until they did an ultrasound at 5.5 weeks to confirm a uterine pregnancy. I was told that most ectopics aren't problematic for the mother until after 6 weeks, so they weren't too worried right away. I just looked out for pain on one side or spotting and thank god there was none..my sono later confirmed a healthy uterine pregnancy. good luck to you!! I'm sure it'll be ok!!!

Yes, as soon as you get a positive test they should have you in for betas.

Re: If you have a history of ectopic pregnancy
I just had the methotrexate shot for an ectopic pregnancy last week. The doctor mentioned at the appointment, before she gave me the shot, that AS SOON as I find out I'm pregnant again (god willing), I will need to come in for beta monitoring.
Good luck!!

i'm so sorry for your loss this is what makes me nervous. should i at least have blood work now to make sure my levels are rising normally? the only reason i am not a mess right now is that i did have a healthy pregnancy following my previous 2 ectopics.

Thank you. I don't see the harm in calling to ask and explaining your concern. Peace of mind is worth a lot... and it shouldn't be that much trouble for them to write you a script and then give you a call with the results. You're asking to have blood drawn, not like you're going in there demanding 50 sonos, lol.

I agree, the bloodwork should be an easy thing for them to do..
However I have to say this..I was told that normal rising blood levels in the beginning don't necessarily mean it's NOT ectopic...because sometimes the HGC levels start getting erratic a bit later on with ectopic and in the beginning they can rise normally..the best indicator is just waiting to see the ultrasound to confirm the uterine pregnancy. However it gave me peace of mind to see the #'s rise normally..worth calling and asking!

If you have a history of ectopic pregnancy
You should definitely have bloodwork as well as early sonos to confirm an intrauterine pregnancy.

yes, i have heard this too and i think that's why they didn't say anything to me about doing bloodwork now. i was considering giving a call to ask but i don't even know if the betas will calm my nerves at all. i don't think i will feel better until the first sono.

Re: If you have a history of ectopic pregnancy
I had 1 mc in 2010 and an ectopic in 2011. As soon as I got my BFP this time I called and they had me come in the next day for blood work. I was going every week after for blood work and close monitoring until 12 weeks.

Re: If you have a history of ectopic pregnancy
I'd think of it this way. If the normally rising betas still won't calm your nerves, that's one thing. However, god forbid if your betas are not rising normally, at least you will know and your doctors will know to montior you extremely closely with early ultrasounds and avoid potential damage from another ectopic pregnancy. Of course, lots of that everything is perfect!!
