glucose screen & GD

i have to schedule my glucose screen test in the next week or two and i'm feeling scared to take this test!!

i've gained an appropriate amount of weight (15 lbs at 26 weeks), but i do have a carb-heavy diet... read: bagels for breakfast, pb&j for lunch, pasta for dinner, cookies and other snacks, etc.... so i'm afraid that this is putting me at risk. i don't want to "throw" the test and eat a super clean diet for the next week or so leading up to the test, but i don't want to fail either.

can anyone share their story? what can i expect? has my diet up to this point ruined my chances of passing this thing?

I think the point of the test is to see if you have GD, which would show up regardless of what you eat based on the drink they make you drink. I believe I was told to fast from midnight the night before.

I gained a ton of weight w/ my first pregnancy and ate 1/2 a carton of Ben & Jerry's several nights a week. I think avoided sweets the day before, but I'm pretty sure there is no way to "throw" the test.

As far as i know, eating carbs doesn't give you GD.

I think if you have gd you will have it regardless of what you eat. I also eat carb heavy and I passed even though I practically fainted at the appt! I would just eat normally and as long as you dont have a chocolate cake for dinner the night before I don't think it'll have an effect on the results. Good luck!! I'm sure you will be fine!

Eating carbs does not equal GD.

To echo the others, if you have GD it will show regardless. And if it's borderline, the DRs will make you take it more than once.

Re: glucose screen & GD

GD has nothing to do with diet, it has to do with the hormone production of the baby and placenta, which interferes with your metabolism. You either have it or you dont, and it cant be prevented.
