Potty Training- Help

My DD is just shy of 2.5. She's been showing interest in going on the Potty for over 6 months, but I sidelined it because I just had my second DD in January. She's starting a little nursery program in September and while she can wear pull ups they expect them to be mostly trained. So I thought I'd do the three day method and take it from there.

We gave her diapers to her baby sister, picked out big girl underwear and off we went. It was a DISASTER!!! Not because of the accidents, because there were only a few, but because she will hold her pee and poop until she is in severe pain.

Today was day 4. She had a poop during nap time on day 1 and that was the last time while she was in underwear. This morning she was literally crying around the house, pulling her vagina because she had to go so badly, but did not want to pee on the potty. She was loaded on fluids and was not even wetting her pants at bed time or nap time. I finally felt so horribly today that I put a diaper on. As soon as it was on, she peed. Wanted to be changed ASAP. She then pooped and freaked out until I changed her ASAP. I know I totally messed up the last 3 days, but I couldn't take it.

It's a real possibility that she isn't ready, but in my gut I think there is some sort of fear. She didn't seem fearful until we started, but rather pretty interested. I've had a potty in the bathroom for over a year! I rewarded every attempt at the potty, heavily rewarded every success, there were three.

I'm not sure where to go from here, just stop and let it go for a few more weeks/months. Do I start again? Did anyone else have this problem? Any tips?

Re: Potty Training- Help

If this was me I would totally back away and let things calm down. Maybe she felt too much pressure. Maybe when it was something she could do it was interesting but now that it's expected it's not. That age is tough. They want control and believe it or not - even over when and where they pee and poop.

She's still young. Let her find it interesting again and see what happens.

Good Luck!

Re: Potty Training- Help

My older ds would hold his pee in all day too. We felt he wasn't ready. We waited another month and had success but with pull ups. He liked the feeling of the pull up but never peed or pooped in it.
I would wait a month and then try again.
