Which Cruise? (Western Carribbean)
DH & I are looking to book a Western Caribbean Cruise & I can't decide which is a better itinerary. They both leave from Tampa and we have never been to any of these ports before.
Option #1:
Key West
Georgetown,Grand Caymen
Roatan
Cozumel
Option #2
Roatan
Belize City
Costa Maya
Cozumel
Have you been to any of these ports? Do you have a preference?

I've never been to Belize City, but we stopped in Roatan. It was raining, but it seemed kind of a meh stop anyway. We were fine with hanging out at the bar or on our balcony with a drink and book for that one.
I'd probably take the second option. Cozumel and Costa Maya were pretty nice. One of the two (can't remember which) has a really nice shopping area and public (but very clean) pool with a swim up bar right by the port.

Interesting, thanks. I had heard good things about Belize (a long time ago.)
DH wants to go to Key West but I figure that's just Florida, we could always go some other time.
Have you been to Grand Caymen? I know so little about it.
Our previous cruises have been Eastern Caribbean & Mediterranean.

Grand Caymen has some nice beaches. That was the deciding factor in my choice for #1.

I went to Belize in February/March and it was pretty sketchy. We had to escorted on a bus with 3 police officers. There are different areas of Belize that people say are GORGEOUS, but it definitely wasnt sure I was.
And I was on the Royal Caribbean line that went to Cozumel and Belize.

If I were to go back to Belize, I'd take a tour that left directly from the ship onto another boat. We never stepped foot in Belize but went straight onto a snorkel tour. Gorgeous waters.

Love Grand Caymen & Key West. Cozumel & Roatan are both nice, but I wouldn't say "exceptional." I haven't been to the other places. Key West is much more of an "activity" port, than a beach port, so in that way, its different than the others. (On cruises that have stopped in Key West I've rented bikes, gone water skiing and done the "train" tour, and of course stoppped in a *few* bars)

I've never been to any of the ports except key west which DH and I loved! We took a scooter around the island for the day and it was really really nice.

Thanks, all! That's a good point about Key West having other things to do besides beaches.
I think we are leaning toward #1. I never knew Belize City was so unpopular!

I don't know, I'd be torn.
We loved this private stingray tour in Grand Cayman.
But we also loved getting a day pass to this all-inclusive beach resort.
I'll take either, at this time.

I did Option #2 via Carnival about 5 years ago. Costa Maya is beautiful, Belize we did an excursion and enjoyed it, Roatan we did a sail and snorkel and LOVED it. I know some people aren't a big fan of Roatan but we actually liked that it was a more under-developed island. And the water was gorgeous. Cozumel I've done about 4 times and to be honest, I'm not a fan.
ETA: I will say though, that Grand Cayman is one of my favorite Caribbean islands and I would probably choose option #1 for the sheer fact that it stops there. GREAT beaches and snorkeling, cute shopping, lots going on, very safe, and the best part is there's a Margheritaville right at the port so while you wait for your tender (at that port you can expect very long lines getting back on the ship) you can just drink on the patio of Margheritaville until the line subsides to get back on the boat!

I think you're thinking of Costa Maya. Actually one of the nicest port areas I've been to. We did an excursion there but we regretted spending the money because right outside of where the ships dock was this beautiful huge pool and shopping center with bars and restaurants. We could have spent the whole day there!
